I have had my 08 convertible for a few months now. Perfect car and out of the 6 I have owned, best by far as far as driving enjoyment. But hard to beat a 71 454 4 speed for sheer terror!.
Problem showed up first time I left it parked outside first time and temp got down to mid to upper 20's. Doors wouldn't unlock, trunk wouldn't unlock no clicks -- nothing. I poured warm water over the drivers door handle area and in a few minutes I got the door to open. Tried to start and nothing-- no clicks, nothing. Interior lights all worked, but no start. Put the fob in the glove box holder and after a couple of tries it started. Never happens if it is warm outside only cold.
I replaced the batteries in both fobs as they both did the same thing.
I live in Texas so wondering if any Northerners have had this occur to them?
No leaks on the battery. Car starts perfect when the fob is put in the holder after a couple of pushes on the switch. Lights are bright, alternator is putting out 13.5-14.5 when idling. I don't know how old the battery is, but it could be the original. Why does the door unlock after I pour warm water over it-- is it that sensitive to voltage?
another question I have-- why does one of the exhaust have a vacuum butterfly in it and can the hose just be removed and plugged so it doesn't close?
Thanks for the prompt replies! Not much similarities with the 89 I had 15 years ago.
I am a little rusty and been away for a while. Here is my first thought. The first thing to determine is if your car has the NPP option for the exhaust. If so both mufflers should have the butterfly. The mufflers were added to some cars as mods with various ways to turn on and off. The easy fix is to remove the fuse I believe which will leave them open all the time if you have the npp option. Option list is in glove compartment if I remember.

I too have an '08 with the Dual Mode (NPP) exhaust. It has butterflies on two of the four exhaust pipes. They are all open when the car is started but the two butterflies close after about 2 seconds. They are programmed to open when the engine reaches approx 3500 RPM. Some people remove the fuse from this control and the butterflies stay open all the time then. Some people purchase a "Mild to Wild" remote control switch which allows you to open and close the butterflies anytime you want. You said you only had one butterfly pipe so I am not sure if you have the factory dual mode (NPP) pipes or some aftermarket pipes.
On the door issue…I too believe you probably have a weak car battery. You can have it tested at an auto parts store to see how weak it is. The voltage reading from the alternator is not an indication of true battery condition. If it is the original battery it is no doubt about to die.
