Default C6 Drive-Train Ping

My 2008 C6 automatic with 34000 miles is making a.... what I call from prior days a driveshaft slap caused by worn u-joints.... ping noise when going into gear and when it automatically shifts gears a slow speeds. Normal acceleration I do not hear it. The noise is coming from the rear gear box area.
Any wisdom on this subject? Tks

In all honesty it is probably your sway bar end links. When they wear out they will make you swear you are feeling drive train slack.

Lots of possibilities, could also be the rear axle nuts (not the wheel lug nuts) are loose. The wheels won't come off but it can get noisy.
There is a GM bulletin about how to fix it.

Starting around 2012, the factory started using a different nut with tabs that get folded into recesses in the end of the axle, I suspect your car has them and so the nuts shouldn't come loose. But it's easy to check.

After a visit to Victory Layne Chevrolet today.... all fixed... torqued the rear axle nuts... thanks to all input.
Can you get the 2012 nuts and tabs for earlier C6's?

Glad you found the problem, but per GM bulletin the nuts should be replaced and Loctite'd, not just re-torqued.

Yup and IIRC the locktite should be left 24hrs before driving.

The ***** never let mine sit and sure enough I suspect they're loose, again. Good grief Chevrolet, getting axle nuts *&* end links right can't be classified rocket science.

They did apply the locktite.... but waited only 30 mins....

from Locktite "Assemble parts and tighten as required. Sets in approximately 10 minutes and fully cures in 24 hours."

We'll see....

From GM TSB's #07-04-95-001A and #08-04-20-003: do not drive car for 24 hours to allow Loctite to cure.
