Broke my vanity mirror on my sun visor and after research, there is no way to fix it properly so shelled out $160 for a new visor with Homelink.
I hated to spend it,but I can not drive around knowing its broke.
One thing is for sure,it will not be opened!

Are you talking about the vanity mirror cover being broken at the hinge ?
Mine broke but it wasn't from using it and took me a bit to figure out why.
It broke from pushing the garage door open button.
The mirror cover rests against the roof locking handle and when putting the visor up, or using the buttons, it puts pressure on the mirror cover.
The other problem I found after the hinge broke is that the cover goes to the open position automatically when the visor is down
And... the mirror light comes on even if the car is shut off
Don't use the mirror anyway so I put a drop of glue on the broken hinge to keep it shut.
Just some info for what it's worth
I got my new visor today and got it installed and all is good!
Its EXACTLY what I wanted too, programmed the Homelink and it worked
like a charm.
The previous owner had ripped off the air bag warning label which
bugged the hell out of me and did not want to pay $28 for a new one,BUT the
new visor had one on it and now it is back to ORIGINAL condition!
Very satisfied customer from the company I bought from too!
I guess you have to worry about the plastic.
3 in 1 does NOT eat plastic, been using it on plastic
gears on model trains since 1970 and same thing as
model airlplane plastic wheels...still own some...no plastic harm.

I think this is the primary cause of the hinge failure.
