Default Check coolant level??

I've had about everything else show in the DIC,but never Check Coolant Level.Last nite i was taking my ride down the blvd.(Stop & Go).I always keep the coolant temp showing in the DIC & it was at about 198 degrees. After about 5 miles the DIC read CHECK COOLANT LEVEL" I pushed the button again & the temp was at 198 degrees, anyway i headed back home & it came on again.I open my hood almost every day to clean and etc & my coolant has always been at the mark when cold.I went out this A/M & checked the reservoir & it was even with the full line when cold.I do not see a level float inside the reservoir. Is this another computer malfunction or what could cause it?? Anyone..Thanks

Could be air in the line, or a worn out sensor.

I looked at your profile and noticed your vett is an 08. I am not sure how the sensor works. It is possibly the sensor or the PH level of your coolant. Have you changed/flushed your cooling system? It is recommended to be changed every 5 years.

Could just be the sensor acting up. Clear the warning and see if it comes back again.

There is no sensor for level, it's calculated. Your problem may well be a bad temp sensor.

Read ChevyDave's explanation here, then read the link he posted at the end for a tip to try:

I have notice in the last month or so that my temp will stay in the 190s & then go to 201 while moving then go back down. The fan comes on at 30% at 195 & 70% at 203.The only time it goes over 203 is sitting in traffic...

Wait: is this stone-cold in the morning, you go out and check the level and it's at the FULL (top, high) line? If so, that's too high. I'd say it should be between full and not full, the low line. Remember, it's an expansion/overflow tank and when the fluid's really hot, it has to go somewhere.

Yes sir:I just went out & check it & it is cold. There is only one line on the tank,,below that line is..(FULL COLD) and the coolant is level to that line.In case it would get to hot there is a over flow hose below the filler cap.Like i said my never gets over 207 degrees..

you are correct: it should be at the Full Cold level when the engine is cold.

My 2008 did this(check coolant level) last year and I added about a pint of water to the reservoir. The warning went away and never came on again.

Try this simple fix first.

I want to add that the reservoir coolant level was full(properly serviced) when this warning displayed.
