Default 2008 C6 Issues

Alright fellow members I'm looking for some information about 2008 C6 vettes. I am in the market for one now and started doing some research to see what issues if any exist or existed. I am hearing two major things and I am looking for you guys to either verify or advise of your personal experiences. 1) Low beam lights go out (completely) after car has been running for about 20 minutes. Dealer says it is the fuse box under the hood that over heats but they will not replace under warranty. 2) Door latch will not open door from inside or outside intermittently. Unknown fix? Please help or add to thread for me. Thanks

I have an 08 myself. I have not heard about the first one. The second one I have seen posted on here and it seemed like an easy fix to just take the door pad off and clean the contacts. I have had no issues.

if you are looking at getting a Vert, there was a recall on fixing the top. Pretty easy dealer fix. They just needed to reinforce the front of the fabric. Apparently, there were enough people going over 100mph that created the recall since the fabric would pull up some.

The only way the headlights go out (as designed) as if the column stalk switch is (a) set to AUTO and (b) coming out of a tunnel (dark to light).

If you have that issue now... sounds like an electronic gremlin.

I have read about both issues here. The first wasn't on an 08, it was on an 05. This thread is the only time I have read about that issue so it is not common. Here is a link;

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...eadlights.html

The second issue is minor and as other state, cleaning or replacing the external pad usually fixes the problem.

I have an '08, haven't had those issues. ^^ David, go take a nap; you deserve it!

I have read of it, the two issues, but what OP does not state is/are reasons and resolutions. First, for the door thing: most are touch pad related, and/or car battery related---as in, old or dying car batt.. Sometimes, even the FOB batt. can have a seemingly unrelated causal factor.

Second, as to low beams, yes, I've read of it. I do think sometimes it's the bulb itself, dirt, poor sealing, water/condensation, poor electrical contacts/sockets. Frankly, that can happen to any light.

I would say these are not major or recurring issues. It has to do with (sometimes) maintenance, or occasional maintenance required. Not dissimilar from just about any other car---that's my opinion.

I've also heard that the Corvette version of the LS3 engine introduced in model year 2008 no longer functions properly when the gas tank goes dry.

Default 08 issues

Bought our 08 new. Had the top recall which was fixed in about an hour at the dealer.
Had non of the issues mentioned. Car sold to local club member last year no problems.

My 08's driver side door had the problem - replaced the latch and the problem hasn't come back since.

I guess I also have to say that my 08 has had no problems.
I did repair/upgrade the seats thanks to one of our forum vendors and I fixed the noisy roof also thanks to this forum.

bought my 08 new- no problems like you mentioned-in fact only issue was a active handling notice that was fixed under warranty 3 or 4 years ago.
No big deal

It might be more common on the 05-07 C6 corvette. I have an 06 and had the low beam headlight issue...

The two issues in questioned seem to be non issues for the vast majority.

I would look for the more common problems of buying a used car. Foremost being regular maintance records.
