I think you missed my point (and made it at the same time), it was about the TV coverage, not the end of the race. Just before the 4 Corvette went to the garage with gearbox issues (with about 3 hours left in the race), it was only 5 seconds behind the winning (and leading at the time) 911. You probably didn't know that though, as they didn't mention it at all on TV. The Corvette then spent about 30 minutes in the garage, hence the ending being many laps out of first place.
Sorry, but your OP did not mention it in that way. I was aware that the Corvette was closing the gap on the 911then the gearbox issue. As far as showing the Corvette going to the garage or even that is was turning better lap times then the 911, that is the norm for commercial TV. They always cover the top cars (i.e. DP's and P2). The other classes are looked at as a filler for the event. That is one thing I really enjoyed about the ALMS for the past few years. Sure it was not on commercial TYV only the internet stream, but the announcers from radio Le Mans knew their sports car racing and the director devoted as much time to each class and if there was a good battle taking place in any of the 5 classes they showed it and stayed with it.
I even understand in a typical sprint race, you can't spend much time with cars not fighting for the lead when you have 4-5 classes. But in a 24 hour race, it's all together dumb. Hopefully MRN gets their act together.
