My 08 coupe is put away for the winter a few weeks before I put it away I noticed the steering wheel is off center and car was pulling to one side I plan on bringing it for an alignment in the spring just about the same time I changed my oil I jacked the car using the recommended location using a single jack on the front jacked quite high so I was able to get under could this have possibly caused the alignment to be thrown off I,ll be getting the cross beam for the next time I change my oil any input?
No I jack mine that way all the time and it has no effect on the alignment. As you said, come spring take it to a good reliable shop and have them check the alignment.
How about tire pressure? Several pounds difference can cause the symptoms you describe. Cold weather causes tires to loose pressure as do nails and screws. LOL

I can understand the tire pressure causing it to pull but I don,t know why the steering wheel would be off I definitely haven,t hit any pot holes or bumps in the road thanks Jack
Is the off center wheel caused by your vehicle pulling to one side and you correcting for it by applying pressure the opposite way? Just a thought.
no the steering wheel is off all the time and yes I do have to hold it with a little pressure to keep the car tracking straight I don,t remember this being the case before I jacked the car like I said i raised it quite high also I had my wheels turned all the way to the right so I could get jack into position in any case when I bring it for an alignment will they be able to correct the steering wheel Thanks Jack

Yes, they should be able to get your wheel straight. Be sure you let them know it is off so they watch for it. I had mine done on my first oil change and my wheel was off just a tad. They got it right the first time and wheel is straight. My settings weren't off very much but they did make a couple of changes along with getting my steering wheel straight.

Hey corvettejack,
I came across your thread and thought I'd stop by. If you plan on getting your alignment at a Chevrolet dealer, let us know. We'd be glad to help setting up an appointment. Remember, don't hesitate to write us with any questions and concerns.
1. Make sure to check the tires with a tire pressure gauge. The TPMS could be off a tad, and giving false readings.
2. When you have the car aligned, then get it aligned for what your going to use the car for. The GM alignment can be a tad more Track alignment, and cause edge tire wear if the car is just street driven. Here is Pfadt suggestions for alignment, and if you are going to use the car for street use, have the Pfadt street alignment put on the car (print out the sheet and stick it in your car). http://www.pfadtracing.com/docs/camb...t-settings.pdf
3. Its a corvette, so the car is littered with sensors, including one in the steering wheel column that knows if the wheel is straight or not. So when the car is aligned, make sure that they plug in a scanner into the car to verity that the steering wheel sensor is 0 at the same time that tires 0. A better alignment shop will give you a print out of the final alignment numbers, including the steering wheel position (take all the guess work of if the steering wheel is centered when the tires are aligned).

All 3 C6s that I bought new had the same problem. I had to keep slight pressure pulling on the left side of the wheel to keep it straight, even on the other side of a crowned highway. My dealer adjusted all 3 and the current one tracks straight. Definitely check the tire pressure first/wear/etc.
