I buy my tires at Discount Tire but am not happy with the tire balance job they do there. Where in San Antonio TX can I get my tires Roadforce balanced?
We had a moron at one Discount Tires who thought that a Road Force of 22 was just fine for a Corvette.
You want below 15, and preferably around 10, especially on the fronts.
Discount Tires will normally do a rebalance for free, you can go back to the same place or try another one. No charge.
Most Discount Tires have a Hunter RF machine, but not all of them.
The one closest to me has one, but it's been broken for 5 years and they don't want to spend the money to fix it.
As I understand it, the machine gives a reading of how far out of round or balance the wheel/tire assembly is, balance is usually adjusted by adding weights but roundness is usually adjusted by breaking the tire loose and moving it on the rim, so the inevitable variation in the wheel and the inevitable variation in the tire, can be used to compensate for each other.
It's unlikely that any combination can be made perfect, but getting the number down to 10 "feels" like perfect to the driver. 15 is acceptable, especially in the rears, but 10 is nicer if they can get it.
