My 427 60th anniversary vert arrives on Tuesday and I have a couple of questions.
What size car capsule should I order?
I dont have the car to measure but does anyone know the bumper to bumper length and tire to tire width?
Do you mean a car cover??? If so most of the forum vendors offer indoor and outdoor covers of varying prices and quality. I have a Carcraft cover and it works for me. Search the threads and you will find many discussions about the subject.
As an actual owner of a Car Capsule, I can tell you with absolute certainty that the 16' model (sku: cc16) is the one you will need. Do not get the tall model...just regular.
I absolutely love mine. The one thing that I do tell most people is that once it is fully inflated, it takes up more space than you think it will. As general rule of thumb, if it is already tight in your garage just parking the car itself, a car capsule will likely be too big for your garage. The good news is that creates a cushion of air around the car, so even if stuff bumps into the bubble or runs into it, it just bounces right off. Its just a little cumbersome to move around it if you need to get beside it while its inflated.
It is an excellent means of storing your car if it will be for a lengthy period of time. However, if you plan to take it in and out of the capsule frequently, you may find it to be a little much. First time setting up takes a good half hour to 45 minutes, however once you know what you're doing it can be done in about 10 to 15 minutes with two people.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I like to try and inform people about this option, although the price tends to drive many away. Most dont even know it exists.
I have always wondered.....does a fan or pump have to run continuously to keep the bubble inflated?
I also have the car capsule and have stored my 2001 & now my 2013 in it.
I am going on my 10th. year with it and have never had a problem. I think everyone who lives in a bad winter climate should own one. It is well worth the money. IMHO
For those wondering, yes it has a small fan, just a little larger than a computer fan that runs 24 /7. That is also how it is able to continuously exchange the air 4 to 5 times an hour...always pressing in fresh air. The air is filtered though, keeping dust and other particles out of the bubble.
Ive also been asked how much it costs to run, thinking that it would be pretty expensive. Due to the very small amount of amps the small fan draws, it is only about four to five dollars a month in electricity.
Stored our 2011 GS in the car capsule in early November. Ran extension cord with battery tender post clamps through front where zippers meet. Remember to lower windows part way for complete air circulation. Works like a champ!
Looked at these at a recent Corvette car show in Chicago. They look like they work really great. Took measurements for my garage and it just won't fit (not by much). It is a standard two car garage. Very bummed.
I agree with the individual who said if it looks tight in your garage already the bubble will probablty not work.

What works best is driving the car. Even in this tough winter there should be at least one day per month where you can take the car for a 40 or 50 mile ride. Keeps the battery charged in both you and the car. They are designed and built for driving not sitting around. Sitting around isn't even considered when they design a car.

What is this "driving" of which you speak? Pieces of art are made to be put on display and admired...not driven around in snow and rain. Winter is a wonderful excuse not to take the C6 out of the garage.
Go online to carcapsule.com. Have our car stored in a toolshed so plenty of room. Think the price is in the four hundred dollar range. When the GS goes in the capsule in November she is there until mid March or April. Way too much salt on our roads here in western Indiana. And yes they do make a heavy duty model for outside use. Six inches of snow on the ground.
