Default C6 DIY Thread

So I was browsing the C5 threads today and saw a really nice one that was dedicated to the DIY guy with tips and processes.

They had some good ideas and pictures of templates they used to make various covers and plates.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...elf-stuff.html

Perhaps we can start one here and flex our knowledge?

Since I am a newb and haven't molested my C6 yet I dont have anything to post however I would object to some ideas! So who is first....

Ken

Kind of but not really since many of those posts are locked or specific to items. The C5 thread is more along the lines of "Hey I modded my ash tray to house my garmin or garage door opener and here is how."

The above referenced thread doesnt quite cover that aspect.

Ahh, you're more looking for walkthrough/talkthroughs. For that I think you just need to do what the rest of us do and search for the specific topic or keywords you're looking for.. Making a topic for that is like making a forum to tell people about forums, lol

Yep! I wish you can search one part of the forum to make the search method more efficient. I got excited when I saw the c5 thread until I realized it was for C5s but none the less gave some cool ideas that can be carried over. Like DIY covers, templates, plasti dip etc, how to paint your under the hood insulator etc.

Stuff like painting your hood insulator, plastidip application techniques, covers etc. are largely universal. There may be small differences between the specific parts but generally speaking the techniques would work for just about anything (the only thing that might change may be measurements if you're looking to do a cover of some sort).

The major items which wouldn't translate well would be powertrain stuff: engines, transmissions, suspension- in which the new C6 is a different world from the C5 and back (and subsequently, the C7). I would say if it's a minor mod you'd probably be just fine looking at a C5 version of it in so far as at least getting an idea of where to start.

Outside that, run searches and see what you come up with, you know immediately what it's related to because the forum is listed on the far right column of the search results, making it easy to see if you're going to be looking at a guide related to the C6 or not.

Also posting them in one place (even if its redundant) might spur other thoughts by that person looking at the thread. For instance if I were looking on how to paint the fuel rail covers the post below that could be something completely different like installing low light accent lights under the dash. It's almost like mind mapping random tangents without jacking a thread. I am a complete squirrel when searching the net. Sometimes I wonder how the heck I got from watching and listening to exhaust notes on youtube to some random video of a baby platypus being hand fed. ADHD... or exhaust fumes... I don't know.
