Default Headlight Assembly Removal

Planning on swapping out my headlights with Carbon Fiber ones shortly. In searching for removal tips I see some where the bumper is not fully removed and others where the bumper is taken off. Which is the easier way? All the threads that pop up during a search dont seem to have any pics of the steps anymore as the threads are old. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I've done it both ways, and I prefer removing the bumper, then removing the top bolts of the fenders to be able to raise the fender to take out the headlights.
There is less chance to scratch stuff if the bumper is removed.
Just a helpful tip, mask off the bottom portion of the hood and top part of the bumper to prevent potential scratches.
I have a PDF for removing the front facia/bumper with pics if your interested.

I second what LV2TOUR said, I taped my hood and bumper and took it off. I found it a pain to get it back on, but feel it made the headlight removal much easier so it was worth it.

for a non auto-body guy(with some common sense & good tools) how long is the removal.... and how long is the reassembly......for a first timer(Im sure it gets quicker once you have the process down)

I wouldn't bother taking the bumper off. If you have an extra two hands both sides can be out in under an hour. I just did this method a couple weeks ago. Worked great.

Yes with 2 people it is easy to remove lights without removing front bumper I have done it twice.

If you are doing it solo it makes it easier to remove the bumper.

Mind if I ask how you did it? Im assuming you just loosend the top bolts on both the bumper and fendors and had one person separating them with their hands and another pulling the headlights?

Correct see below:

1. Remove both wheels
2. Remove forward inner fender liners
3. Unbolt 3 headlight bolts as well as unplug the connector
4. remove all of the screws along the top of the fender and from bumper
5. Have an assistant pull the edge of the fender up while pulling the edge of the front bumper cover forward. (may want to tape the bottom edge of the bumper cover to prevent the studs from scratching. I did not have any issues)
6. Lift headlight up and out.

All done. I didn't take the bumper off. Did it by loosening everything as suggested. I was surprised how easy it was.

Everyone, thanks for your suggestions and help!

Hey guys, I'm in the middle of a headlight re-install... after a bunch of mods. I f___d up and tightened the fender nuts under the headlights too tight. Now when I tried to loosen them to adjust the headlight location (fine tuning), the studs have backed out of the headlight assembly. I can't get them all the way out, because there's another washer on the headlight side, so I need to pull the fender off so I can lift the headlight STRAIGHT UP and out of the cradle it sits in. Does anybody have instructions (or a link) for removing the front fender on a base C6 coupe? I've been searching... Hoping to get this fixed and my lights back installed by the weekend at which point I will post up about my totally custom rockin' new headlights (Halos', blacked out bezels, Hammerhead LED trims and smoked DRL)... thanks in advance. OP.. your lights look great! I almost went with the CF but passed and went black on the bezel instead...

If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy the carbon fiber headlights from...?

What'd you have to do to get the carbon fiber bezels in there? It looks great
