Default Passive Door Locking

I have the passive door locking mode set to "silent". I do NOT store my second fob in the car, however about half the time, when exiting and closing the door the horn will chirp three times. Please help as this is annoying.

Passive door lock reminder is ONE chime (at least on my '08).

Isn't three chimes to remind you that you left a fob in the car? Check your owners manual.

I get this sometimes even when the fob is still in my pocket. I suppose it "thinks" the fob is still inside...??

As has been mentioned here several times, you're probably lingering too close to the door after you get out of the car and shut the door. The car "knows" the door closed, but it "thinks" the fob is still in the car because the fob is too close to that fob-sensing antenna for too long.

Move the fob away from the door a little faster after you close the door.

Try keeping your FOB in your left pocket

Hey Tac4005,

The forum members have proven to be very helpful regarding this topic. The owner’s manual reiterates what has been discussed here but it has some good detail so I copied it below for you. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns, hopefully this helps though!
Lockout Protection
Your vehicle can be programmed to sound the horn
three times and unlock the driver’s door when both
doors are closed and there is a keyless access
transmitter inside the vehicle. When the driver’s door is
opened, the key in reminder chime will sound
continuously. The vehicle will remain locked only when
at least one transmitter has been removed from the
vehicle and both doors are closed. See DIC Vehicle
Personalization on page 3-67.

This happens mostly when the car is in a crowded place and the driver is required to stand very close to the car when closing the door. The car thinks the fob is still inside. It probably does not do it when you close the door in an open space like a parking lot. As you close the door, stand a bit further away, even if that means towards the rear of the car.

So not only is it a nuisance but the car doesn't lock either. In this case, the owner's manual is correct as well as most of the advice you have been given. Step away from the car, son, and no one gets hurt.
