Default Oil pan bolts

I read a post recently that someone had taken their vette to the dealer to have the oil pan bolts retorqued (sp?) and it fixed the small leak he had. I would like to try this first myself if I can get underneath the car enough to get good access. How many of the bolts should I have reasonably good access to to re-tighten? Also, what is the correct torque? I will get a torque wrench before I start.

Also, is there a proper tightening order?

Front bolts have no clearance, practically resting on cradle. If you jackstand at side pucks to crawl under & than jack up the tire it'll compress suspension/spring & give you room for an open end wrench to slip in between cradle. No room for socket at front though. Side & rear bolts were easy to access. I didn't follow any pattern just did a little each & came around again. Forget the torque values. Didn't cure my oil leak, had to bring in for a gasket.

Dealer torqued mine and it seems to have stopped the oil seepage.

Unfortunately, no idea what technique or sequence he used.
The Service Manual has the torque values, but my manual is not with me right now.

Be absolutely sure to note which spec says INCH pounds and which says FOOT pounds. Major difference for those little bolts.

Failure to read correctly (aka haste) cost me a new starter solenoid and 2 days delay.

Snapping off an oil pan bolt would be a bigger problem.

Mine is at the dealership right now having the gasket replaced.
They are going to give the car a once over and make sure everything else is good. Mine had been leaking for a month or so but I had to wait to bring it to a dealership 3 hrs away. It was a small drip but I wanted to make sure a had a service dept with an awesome rep do it.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the cost of having a new gasket installed?

I don't mind you asking John but I don't know. Mine was done under warranty but they had to do an alignment afterwards because they drop the front end. The alignment isn't covered so it cost me $125.00.
Wish I could help you.

I coulda swore that some other folks have had the alignment covered by the warranty when the oil pan gasket was replaced.

Who else has had the alignment covered or not covered?

my alignment was covered - I remember they did it because it was discussed and they never tried to get me to pay for it - mine was done under the powertrain warranty and not the bumper-to-bumper

It really seems like it should be covered since they have to do it because the oil pan gasket had to be replaced. Wonder if there is anything I could do at this point?
