All this talk about the Harmonic Balancer. I just recently found out what it is. (yes , I'm a newbie), Now I need to know if I should replace it. I just bought a 2005 C6 6MT . It only has 9300 miles on it. I can hear a slight screeching of the belt if I'm out of the car and listen carefully. Is this the Harmonic Balancer ? Should I think about getting it replaced. How much does it cost to get it replaced ? (approx.)
There are multiple threads that contain YouTube videos and you can easily see if you have the dreaded GM wobble. PITA to do, and expensive if you have to pay someone to do it for you. There are a couple of methods, either to remove the power steering rack or drop the cradle. Lot of pictorial tutorials with step-by=steps on what it takes. Search is your friend.
Whatever you do, replace it with an ATI balancer and not another GM crapulant part.
Belt screeching can be several things, like bad belt, bad idler, alternator, etc. Start with the simplest first, if you can eliminate the HB based on the videos.

yours may already have been replaced, 2005 had a recall for the bolt and replaced both. that being said. I don't know who told all these "forum engineers" that a ring of steel mounted on a rubber ring and then vulcanized to another piece of steel was NEVER going to move in/out or in an egg shape to the inner circle. I don't know? AFTER ALL IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO THAT!
