I am having trouble converting music to a MP3 format. Does anyone know what steps I need to take to convert the files to the MP3 format that will be received and playable in my car?
The file that I have converted indicates it is in a MP3 format, but will not play. Shows invalid disc loaded. However, the disc will play via my desktop.
Are you talking about the six disc CD/MP3 changer or the single disc player in the NAV unit? I had the changer in my 08 and it played all the CD's and MP3 discs I had made over the years, mostly with MusicMatch Jukebox and later with Media Jukebox. The Silver 2009 has NAV, and making a disc that will work in it is a different ballgame. There's a sticky somewhere, but it took several attempts to make viable discs using Media Monkey. I burned five or six coasters before I got the knack and burned six workable discs. [all the non-workable ones played in the 08 changer, but that car is now gone] That gives me 1400 or 1500 songs that work and display properly and that's all I need.
Now if I could only get the garage door opener to work.......!

So what did you do that was successful on your 2009. I am losing patiences. Hoping what ever you did I can benefit from.
The key for me was the 'Disc format' box. The player in the nav system can't handle file names longer than 25 characters. If you shorten everything down, the display isn't right, plus it's a lot of work. Media Monkey shortens the names for the player, but the display is normal. BTW, I used the free version. MM will change all the file associations to itself every time you use it, so I deleted it once I burned all the discs.

Reason: addition
This might also be a good time to repeat a few of the rules for easily creating MP3 CDs.
1.Folder names must be 29 characters or less.
2.File names must be 25 characters or less plus ".MP3".
3.ID3 tags must be version 1.X and not version 2.x which is what most newer programs will want to create.
4.ID3 version 1 tags are physically limited to 32 characters so you don't have to do anything special to trim them.
5.Variable Bit Rate (VBR) encoding can cause problems with ending early and not FF and rewinding correctly.
6.You need to create the disk with a program that creates MP3 discs and not data discs. Windows Media Player creates data discs even though it says MP3 discs.

I've been making mp3 discs for years using Nero or Windows Media Player - create them as a data CD. Every single disc of mine works in all 3 of my GM cars.

But will they work in a Corvette Nav system MP3 player? The ones I've been burning for years work in my C6 changer, Prius, SSR, computers, home entertainment center, and everywhere else but not in the Corvette NAV system.
Don't do it. Right after they boost your car they'll be at your home boosting all the high end items.
The would be true of any of my cars, including the 09 with the "clip on" opener, except that the door from my garage to the house is locked, dead bolted, and monitored by the security system. They could just as easily break into the front, back, or side doors with the same results.

I have a 2006 Nav unit, and my mp3 music is copied to a data cd using Nero Express 9, and it works each and every time.
Maybe the 2009 Nav unit is different and Data CD's won't work on that system.

So simple even a Cave Man can do it!
Latest Media Player you can put disc in drive and select "Rip"

Good Luck
Thanks, but I've got six working MP3 discs for my 09 NAV equipped car and I know how to burn more if I need them. I was replying to the OP. I tried Nero, but I didn't find a way for the program to shorten the file names automatically which is necessary for the NAV player. Maybe it can, but I wasn't that familiar with the program. Media Monkey will automatically shorten the file names to 25 characters and still display the album, artist, and song title properly.

No, it can't. And it isn't just that long file names won't display correctly. The unit won't even see them or play them. Media Monkey can be set to shorten automatically and AF5 gives full control of how file names are formed up to 256 files at a time.

Now if I could only get the garage door opener to work I had the same problem with my garage door opener. I had to park the car inside the garage to make it work.

Thanks for the link - I had never seen it, but I probably had my discs burned with MM before he posted it. I agree with what I read, but I only skimmed it. I like what he said about Windows Media player. I use it for MP3's and videos on the computer.
When I first tried to play my previously burned MP3 discs after buying the 09 C6 with NAV, the player would only see maybe 20 songs out of 250. I now know that these were songs with short file names naturally. Then I learned what I could do with MM [and maybe others] so I then knew about the recognition problem. Believe it or not, at first I tried to shorten the file names manually. This was an impossible job, plus I had some pretty weird displays.
