How much of the original Route 66 highway still exists? If you happen to see Todd Stiles or Buz Merdock, be sure to wave.

A few pretty long stretches still are there. Mostly in Arizona. One through the old west town of Oatman, AZ. We will be looking for Buzz and Todd.

You've probably heard of the Rt66 museum in Kingman, AZ. I haven't been but heard it was worth the admission.

Thanks, I knew there was a museum, but did not know it was in Kingman.

Went to it last month and, including the 15 minute film, takes about an hour. Cost is $4. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it but if you are in the area then worth it. Good drive in type restaurant (but not a drive in - just memorabilia) across the street that serves breakfast all day.

Keep an eye out for not only the AHP but also for the Indian Res cops patrolling 66. They're looking (and searching) cars for contraband and illegals.

Another Route 66 museum well worth stopping at is in Clinton, OK.
Stop and see the old service station/diner in Shamrock, TX.
Adrian, TX is the halfway point of Route 66. Stop at the Midway Café, home of "ugly pies".
The Big Texan in Amarillo is the home of the 72 oz. steak. Betcha can't eat one.
Have lunch at the El Rancho in Gallup, NM.
Don't miss Seligman, AZ or the Hackberry Store.
Meteor Crater is one biga** hole in the ground!!

And most importantly, post photos when you get back home!

Don't forget to stand on the corner in Winslow AZ. La Posada Hotel in Winslow is a cool historic place to stay. It's one of the old Harvey House hotels from the 1930's. It's been refurbed.

Nice area of Rt.66 through Santa Fe NM. Be sure to spend some time in the market square, lots of vendors and some tourist junk stores up to and including some very high end art dealers.

Someone mentioned Oatman AZ: Fun place to visit, bring carrots for the burro's in town; their all over the place. Have lunch at the Oatman Hotel, they have a pretty good burger.

Rt. 66 is the quintisential old highway but there are a lot of old two lane highways that are just as interesting. In fact, most 2 lane highways are worth the drive if you have the time. And a Corvette is the way to drive a 2 lane. You can pass anybody almost any time. Not as many police as on the Interstates though those you do see are a lot more hungry than the Interstate cruisers. But since you are there to enjoy the drive there is no need to be doing anything to encourage them.

Enjoy! I will never forget the drive on 36 from Illinois to Colorado. Kansas is the worst 8 hour drive ever on the Interstate but a very enjoyable 2 days on the 2 lanes. Or the 2 lanes through Idaho and Oregon or the coast highway from Crescent City to San Diego. Take your time and stop at all the little hole in the wall places. It's a big country and different everywhere you go. And take lots of pictures.

Last October I visited my brother who lives in O'Fallon, IL. We drove part of Route 66 going to Springfield. I was fun. I'd like to drive out west one day to see the Cadillac Ranch.

Thanks for the Route 36 idea, maybe on the way back!! Another great road is US Route 50 Between Reno and eastern Utah. They call it the loneliest highway and in places you go a long stretch without ever seeing another vehicle. Made that trip on the Harley last year and want to do it again in the Corvette.

3 years ago this month a buddy and I made the trip from Sacramento Ca to Henderson Ky. in a 32 roadster. We stopped in Seligman Az. for fuel and just happened into Lelo's resturant for breakfast. It was great. Food was excellent and good atmosphere, friendly people. Very small town on rt 66 . It must be an interesting stop for travelers because we ran into a large group of corvettes and a large group of Harleys. All were parked taking pictures. Probably worth a look if you are on I40. (only 2 resturants. Lelo's and The Roadkill Cafe).

Don't miss the Coleman Theater in Miami, OK or the only remaining section of the ribbon road (precursor to Rt 66) just outside of town. There is also a little known free museum a few miles down the road in Afton. Look for the Packard sign at an old DX gas station.

Subscribed. Planning a 66 trip mid-May. Going to try and get to Springfield, MO first day, then take the next 8 or so days to wander westward.
