Default Trailer Hitch?

I ride a Honda Goldwing and pull a Bushtec motorcycle trailer. I was thinking of getting a trailer hitch on my 2012 Vette to pull this trailer and give us a little more storage space when we travel. The trailer is very light weight and when pulling it with my bike I find myself checking my mirrors to see if it's still there. Any thoughts on who makes a hitch for a Vette that wouldn't be terribly noticeable?

Don't listen to "them". There's nothing wrong with pulling a small trailer behind your C6. It's the only way I could ever get all my camping gear to The Lake. It's also the same trailer I use for my summer/winter wheels & tires when it's time to change them. At any rate...

There is a very good Class I trailer hitch for the C6 available at Ecklers. http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...2005-2008.html I have this mounted on my '07 A6 vert with stock exhaust and it fits perfectly. Be advised that many aftermarket exhaust systems, and in particular the Mild-2-Wild mod, are not compatible with this hitch.

Several members have used the plans and been satisfied. If you want it to be inconspicuous when not in use, then make the overall length 8.5", rather than 12.5" and weld a 6" long 1.25" receiver tube on the bottom. You can then buy a Chevy bow tie emblem that inserts into the tube.

Thanks for your help. I'm new to this board but frequent a motorcycle board and there are always similar responses to what D. Guerra gave. For the most part guys are willing to help but you always get smart *** answers from certain people.

Will definitely look up that hitch.

I built my own because the ones they sell do not look as good or hidden.
I was going to install a tow hook anyway so I built a tow hook that slides into the hitch.
I have not towed with it yet but it nice to know I can when I need to.
The guys who get upset about hitches hate them because the lawn chairs now fold and fit in the back fine on the 20 mile tip to the show with a stock vette with stick on do dads.

Default Curt trailer hitches for Corvette

Here's mine, but since I do have the NPP,cut off the Y at the rear of the hitch and made a rectangular box that is in the center. Not completely hidden but still not that noticeable.Make sure you get a plug and play wiring as its only 10 minutes to wire up the car./hitch.

I have not wired mine in yet as I did not want to cut the wires, where did you find the plug and play?

To the OP, yes it can be done...easily. I've seen several C6, 5, 4's with them; hauling everything from camping gear to tracking gear.

It the words of Spock, "logic dictates" it can be done. Go forth and "Google".
Good Luck

U-Haul can supply and install the Curt hitch and wire it for you as they did for my '05.

With the gas mileage we get with our 2012 C6, not to mention how fun and comfortable it is to drive, it makes the perfect vacation car except for extra space.. We also travel with my support dog that fits well in the back but doesn't leave much room for any luggage.. SO yesterday I ordered a miniature Corvette from Larry at Car Replica Trailers.. Honestly I can't wait to get it and take it to shows. It will be painted to match my C6 but about a third of the size.. It will provide around 25 cubic feet of extra room for our trips.. The picture I'm going to post is off of Larry's website and not my car but only intended to show what the trailers look like.. He has several different car bodies besides a Vette too..

I think they look cool and and useful.

If you're going to pull a trailer it might as well be a cool trailer

If a bike can haul one I'm sure my Vette will to and look cool doing it.

The problem with the trailer is that you will be restricting yourself the the speed limit of "Autos with Trailers". Doing 55 mph in a Vette? You'd never get into 6th gear.

I've never heard of a different speed limit for someone pulling a trailer.. You'd get run over if you 55 on the highways around here.. I do NOT plan on going 55.. I will look into that in the states we travel but I know me and if the speed limit's 75 I'm going 75 lol..

Illinois use to have the same law. Thank goodness they finally got rid of it. It included big rigs too. Talk about a PITA !!!!

While I can't be as abusive as some have been towards pulling a trailer with a vette, I do wonder why anyone would want to. The car is simply not designed for it. Towing, depending on how much weight of course puts a tremendous strain on a lot of things. Frames...brakes....springs just to name a few. And if you are towing any amount of weight in a vette you better be ready to watch your A-6 tranny temp go up...and up....and up. Now of course the internet experts can chime all they want about how they tow all the time and have no problems at all...ever....but it just doesn't seem like a good idea from the stand point of taking care of ones high dollar sports car.....
