I have a 2005 C6 and the stereo system is quite outdated. It is not satellite ready and has no inputs for USB or blue tooth capability. It is my understanding that security and other electronic functions run through the stereo and that a new factory radio should be installed in lieu of after market stereo systems.
Anyone run into a problem with after market stereos? Thank you in advance for any recommendations.
I also was in the same boat with my 05, just remember when you replace your radio with another year Corvette radio, you will have to have it programed at the dealer cause it's not going to work.
I went with Kenwood and I use my garmin to Nav, radio has all the bells and whistles. I know the installer had to install adapters to the radio to make all items in the car work properly.
This radio has DVD player, CD player, iPod and bluetooth along with XM radio receiver I had them install. I have had no issues but beautiful music.
Talk to Dennis at Double D Mods. I have the Kenwood with navigation, DNX891HD. It was installed on Thursday. It's awesome. Now if I can just learn everything it can do.
I also have an 05 and went with the Kenwood DNX890 about a year ago. It functions fine but has it's own issues. Radio is "slow", reaction wise, and is annoying. XM radio volume output is very low compared to HD broadcast.
After market cables are messy, hard to hide them all. Did not reuse factory sat antennas. Supposedly newer versions get around that.
With the normal battery challenged Vette, redoing all the presets a royal pain, no way to back up via USB (I finally went with a battery tender) but any disconnects loses all settings.
Can't recommend Pioneer either, customer service requires long waits to get non answers.
1bdvet, that looks great! Exactly what I need to do!
I had it professionally done, and no it takes two adapters, one for the antenna other for the radio so all the functions of the car will work. I had them install satellite receiver and hid the antenna in the rear of the car, which works perfect concealed and bluetooth is awesome.
Call Dennis at DDMods, he's knowledgeable vender on the forum.
Picked up a base '07 the other day. Any of you mind giving rough pricing estimates on what you got installed? Don't need it, but wouldn't mind having it.
I have an 07 coupe, factory system was Bose with nav. and satellite. Just updated my system with the Pioneer SPH-DA210 App radio 3. had it professionally installed using all the correct wiring harnesses so the unit performs as the factory unit did. I can use it as an extension of my iphone 5 and scroll through the dash unit the same as my phone including using Siri.. I wanted out of my satellite after completing my last renewal service.
I never cared much for the factory Nav unit and now use Free Nav USA which is a free app which is touch screen capable on my new system. This is a very user friendly head unit easy to navigate. Installed with all harnesses and the unit itself was $1300 and change. One of the best mods I have done. There are some you tube vids and Pioneer electronics has it on there site as well.
Don C1 - Thank you for the detailed reply! Can I ask you where you went to have your stereo done? I am nervous to go to a place like Pep Boys or a national chain like that.

Yeah know what you mean. There is a shop in Maryland, Baltimore County called Caton Radio. They have been at their location on Baltimore Natl Pike for as long as I can remember. After talking to them for about an hour I was convinced I made the right decision.
