We've had one of these for a couple of years. Installed, I do think it looks like a badly fitted toupee. But it does have some advantages:
Not really quicker to install/remove than our transparent top, but lighter which is easier on old backs. Don't have to worry if we drop it or the wind grabs it out of our hands on a windy day.
More importantly, it takes up much less trunk space. It folds almost flat in the trunk (we seldom use the storage bag) and we can easily put or remove anything on top of it for a day trip.
I don't get this at all. We had this for wranglers where putting the top up is a small ordeal but for a corvette. Not sure it makes any sense.
Only reason I see for something like the Lotus Elise or the Pontiac solstice coupe (which GM designed a soft top for, since the hardtop couldn't fit in the hatch) soft top that rolls up is you can have the top off and have more room in the cargo area.
Someone could probably use a hardtop frame, remove the skin and fit a soft replacement, but that wouldn't make it that much lighter, only a few pounds. Would also take up the same amount of room for storage.
I know it`s not the best looking thing it`s only temporary while at the mall, GYM, beach ECT. if I wanted something that was UGLY all the time I would have bought a RAG TOP!!!
While it takes slightly longer to put on than this Protect-a-top, I have a California Pop Top that rolls up to the size of a football and keeps dust and bird poop out when I want to leave the top off. It also keeps the sun out by covering all the windows to keep the interior nice and cool during Texas' summer.

yeah, that is friggin brilliant.
Even better! Harder to steal, more protection from the sun, more portable, and cheaper.
Has anyone found a soft targa top that looks as 'finished'
(OEM) as the photo
posted here of the Porsche with soft targa ?
I need cargo area, so that puts the hard top at home often,
want to cover with something that looks great if weather sours,
and gives some protection.
I've been dreaming of a Soft Targa Top that you can drive the car with for years.
The hard top takes up all of your space and is a PITA.
But we have freak rain storms here in TX. I have left for a car driving trip in perfectly sunny conditions and hit a massive street flooding rain storm 8 hours later.
SpiderWebShades and several newer companies have offered something similar to the Jeep crowd for years. I owned their Shade Cages for both of my TJ and JK models, absolutely loved them, and have thought they would be nice here.
For the Corvette, most of the cost involved would be in the R&D and manufacture of a prototype targa frame to stretch the mesh over. I have reached out to SpiderWebShade to see if they’ve considered expanding their offered products to other vehicles, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up on anything being available any time soon. If I had the time, money, and know-how, I honestly would have jumped on this myself over a year ago.
Well I guess nothing was settled on this forum, one thing is for sure if you drop the soft top it want hurt it, if you drop the Hard top you will sure hurt it and your pocket book also. That's my story, have fun.
