Default Battery drain solved.

Three weeks ago I was just cleaning up my vette for the spring. I came across a broken vanity cover on the passengers side. As you all know, our vettes are notorious for the dreaded battery drain. My wife had broken it, but stayed quiet, for fear of her life, lol. I figured out a way to keep it shut and the beast vette has been starting just fine. So to all who have had battery drain , you may just need to check with wife or girlfriend or any other friend . May not be everyone's case that has this problem, but, it may be a good idea to check.

So what kind of broken vanity cover would cause battery drain?

The kind that would keep the light on.

But.... It should shut off after 20 minutes so I doubt that is your issue.

20 minutes isn't going to kill a good battery that is properly charged. The OP's issue will return.

I hadn't even considered he was talking about the lights on the sun visor, but I agree 20 minutes won't kill the battery anyway.

Guessing the switch, itself.

I 'd a dying battery problem with my '80 C3 L-48 years ago.
Couldn't figure it out UNTIL I parked it, at night.
Saw the vanity mirror light was still illuminated, problem identifies, pure luck on my part.

The switch for a vanity lamp on an '80 have a small white plastic post.
When cover's closed it's supposed to depress the post which turns switch off.
Over time the switch post had recessed until it could never be depressed, ergo it was always 'on'.
The fix was simple, elevate the switch so it'd either be in depressed (off) or not (on) when cover was lifted as designed.

Cheap design, but good to know when dead batteries become frequent occurrence. Had it not been night time it'd have been a stinker locating issue.
