How easy is it to roll back modern electronic speedos? I'm hunting for a good C6 to buy and don't need any surprises.
I get conflicting info from "car guy" friends: some say it's fairly easy with the right PC program, some say it is not easy.
Of course with Carfaxes and similar reports available today, depending on how extensive the entries are, it would not be as easy to get away with it as it was in the old days.

I had the same concerns when I was shopping...and I determined that they can be manipulated via programming....but depending upon your state, the emissions testing each year would require somebody to reprogram it multiple times if they owned it for several years... I ended up buying a pretty new 1 and the miles matched all of the CARFAX information very well...and if it has dealer service done regularly it would be almost impossible for someone to cheat the system....
Usually people would just buy a new cluster guage with low miles on it if they're that determined to cheat the system, but then of course the mileage wouldn't match the VIN in any reputable shop. I'd say you're safe 99.8% of the time.
