Default Help with redline radar detector setup

Just got a redline radar detector this week. I live in Houston. I’m planning on driving up I-45 to Dallas sometime soon. I am confused about the recommended setting I have read on this forum. It seems counterintuitive to “turn off” things, like X band and using the band segmentation to “turn off” some Ka bands. Can someone please clear this up for me?

Also, the manual cautions against mounting the detector to “anti-lacerative” windshields. I have a C6 with factory HUD – is this a problem?

Thanks,
Mike

C6's don't have that. It refers to some type of soft coating that was used on some Porsche cars and the suction cups could mar the interior coating.

I keep my V1 in full Logic mode, 'L'. This cuts out the X band, I've only detected K, Ka and Laser that were cops. X band is car alarms, burglar alarms, microwave ovens and whatever but not radar from cops.

Turning off X-band shouldn't be a problem as it is almost never used for speed radar anymore.

K-band is used for door openers and security systems so reducing the sensitivity to this band a little bit is a OK.

Ka-band is exclusively used by the LEO's in my state and I would check on your Regional Forum for confirmation before adjusting this band at all.

Keep in mind that turning it to " filter" out unwanted alerts; ie "city" or "auto" will increase processing time. You will be better off turning off bands that you KNOW aren't used. Don't do this if you are in an unfamiliar area.

Many county cops still use X, only NJ troopers still use it last I heard.

Turn off Ka segments 1 and 10. You can turn off segments 3,4,7 and 9 but turnignoff these segments can result in missing an out of tune radar gun. Most important turn of RDR (Radar Detector Rejection), this will give you the performance gain. The it off segments 1 and 10 will reduce Ka band false alerts. Turn off SWS, if there are K band traffic flow monitors in the area you are traveling, then keep TSR on, if not turn it off. Some have said that TSR on reduces k band falses due to blind spot monitors systems.
