Default Blendmount Wire Tap

Anyone here have any issues getting the Blendmount Wire tap installed on their mirror's wiring?

On mine, the switched hot wire was so tight in the plug I could NOT get the Blendmount wire in, no matter what I tried.

I ended up breaking the Blendmount wire where the heat shrink is.

Now I am going to have to snip off the connector on it, resolder and reapply heat shrink.

The mount itself installed in a matter of minutes.

Any suggestions?

well that makes 2 of us that are having issues, I have the .055 and .080 and I cannot get either one of the wires to stay in place, what the hell am I doing wrong?
I have tried both of them half a dozen times each, I am starting to worry I am pushing the leads in so hard they are going to bend or break on the wire tap.

grab the lead about half way up with needle nose pliers and push pin in gently, do the push in with the pliers

You're certainly not the only one(s) to be challenged by this. Some owners can't even get the connector un-plugged from the back of the mirror.

The issue is that you are trying to insert the pin into a socket that's already occupied by the mirror's pin.

What you have to do is try all four 'sides' of the socket until you are able to fully insert the additional new pin.

And once the new harness is connected, make sure to use the nylon cable ties to keep the pins in place.

thanks, I can get it unplugged, but neither wire goes in, being I am having such a hard time, maybe I should go with the thinner pin.

The pins on the cord I used were flat/blade shaped, so they could slide in along the edge of the socket.

It's a total PITA to do this with the connector plugged into the mirror.

Check the pic. You can see that the sockets you are trying to insert the new pin into are square.

Good Luck.

getting the clip out from behind the mirror is no problem, it is getting the pins to push in far enough to stat put.
Going to get a small needle nose and see if I can push them in a little tighter.
thank you

The mirror tap is not the correct way to power your detector. The mirror connector plug is not designed to have pins forced to make contact. The correct way to power your detector is to run a wire to the fuse panel in the passenger foot well using a fused ad-a-circuit. Takes more time but makes for a secure and safe connection.

Is there a small t-tap that can be used to snap on the mirror wires?

Mine kept working loose and falling out no matter what I tried to get the wires to stay put. Then..broke it trying to force them in deeper. Plus..they need to be spread apart a little more to make it easier to plug in.

So gotta buy another one and come up with a solution.

Id be up for the footwell thing..how do you route the wire up close to the mirror and into the detector? What do you have to take apart to do so?

Run the wire from the detector along the roof line , down the windshield, behind door weather strip to the fuse panel. You can use a cd disk to help tuck the wires as you go. Once you get started you will be able to figure it out as you go. Trust me, this is the best way to wire your detector.

Great..Like not having to remove anything.

Just found some direct cords. Do you recommend the t-tap or fuse tap connection and I'm assuming 8' cord is long enough?

I like the fused add-a-circuit. T-tap would work but I have more confidence in the fused one. Eight feet of cable is plenty. I also soldered my wires to the add-a-circuit but you can use crimp fasteners if you make sure you get a good, tight crimp.

if you guys are having problems getting the wire tap in you should think about the dash tronics I got one an its works great. it shows the radar on your dash or hud or both an it plugs right into your main computer under the dash.

This is what I had to do.

I flattened the round tips and then was able to force them into position with needle nosed pliers.

That's what I was doing. I even used my gunsmithing needle nose because I am able to grasp the prong more firmly.
