Just wanted to share that I recently dipped the chrome wheels on my 11 GS. It is a popular procedure and very easy to do. I looked into having it done at a local authorized retailer but they wanted $250. Not a lot of money but being a do it your selfer, I went to the website, dip your car.com and spent $25 on the wheel kit. It includes 4 spray cans which I only used 3. Let me say the results are phenominal. It has been over a month since I did it and they are holding up well. I highly recommend this product and at any time you can remove the dip and go back to your original color. Here are a few pictures.
Looks good. Just ordered some to do my wheels as well. Did you do them while on the car? The only thing I'm worried about is being able to get far enough back on the inside of the rim so that it's fully covered.
I've been thinking about doing this to mine to decide if I want to go with grey wheels. Does anyone know what color is closest to comp grey? There's a gunmetal, charcoal, and anthracite. Just not sure which I should try.
I want to do this to my GS wheels for track purposes. They are chrome now, and I want to cover the chrome with plasti-dip and use them for track and yet protect them.
What is the prep like, anything that will damage the chrome finish?

Do I have to have the tires removed?
Where can I buy this product?
What is the cost?
Any and all information is greatly appreciated.
dipyourcar.com will have all the answers for you as well as videos to see the process. Call Fonzie is you don't get the answers you need, he's a great guy, I've talked with him quite a few times.

Bother me?? No way...I had the blingy chrome for too long and needed a change. If I get tired of the black.....I just peel it off and back to the factory look.

Sorry, you misunderstood. I'm a fan of black myself, obviously.
When I asked about the flat mat finish, I didn't mean black vs. chrome.
I meant the flat mat black vs. the high gloss piano lacquer looking black, such as the stock GM black wheels.

Ahh, gotcha. I was debating on either the flat or gloss. I may try the gloss look next time I dip them. Either way, I highly doubt I will go back to standard issued chrome.

I actually took the wheels off so I could get all the nooks. I had previously painted the insides of the rim with caliper paint, its more heat resistant and more permanent.
The site mentioned, dipmycar.com has some nice videos on whetl painting and a few new products just for this type of project. I had thought about it a few times, but I like the look of my black chrome wheels. Not out right bling in your face chrome and not the all out black look. I like this look right now on the Monterey Red Metallic color of my '07.
