C7 Impressions
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Finally, in 08 the C6 was faster and felt lighter, especially with the Z51 package. The trans was much better (A6) and the steering was really improved. Not a totally different car, but the improvements were noticeable.
The C7 fit and finish seems not much better than t he C6 but the quality of the interior materials is better. The electronics are more modern but the C6, like the C5 has the traditional sports car layout that some of us "older" buyers like. Performance just doesn't seem to me to be $40,000 better and that's what I'd need to spend to trade my 08 vert and get a C7.
Yes, the C7 is a better car but for how most of us use the car (around town and highway trips, no drag strips or race tracks) it just not better enough for me to part with the cash.
Also, I think the C7 is attracting a lot of new to the Corvette buyers. I just don't see the Chevy dealers flooded with C5s and 6s. I've got several major Corvette dealers near me and they seem to have about the same number of vettes they always do and they never wholesale a nice Corvette as in this part of Florida you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a vette. I drove the 8 miles to best buy today and counted 9 Corvettes on the road.
That C7 color scheme is absolutely GORGEOUS!

Thank you! And you can add the 427 (with its Z06 engine and performance) into the group that the c7 can't compete with.
I had two cars that were really close in performance (as measured on a drag strip and a reasonable autocross comparison...although not the same exact course). One was older, much louder, and had a suspension built for autocrossing/road course with hard bushings, etc... The other was my C6, a more modern car, just about stock, reasonably quiet, and much nicer over rough roads. Everyone that drove or rode in both thought the older car was faster due to feel and noise -- even though I knew performance was similar, but found the older one more "fun" to drive fast, but would pick the C6 every time when driving somewhere on normal roads.
It boils down to two things:
1) soft doesn't mean it doesn't perform better, base for base, Z51 for Z51 the C7 will be better but
2) driving enjoyment is an individual experience, and it's totally valid that the C6 just feels better, feels faster, or is more enjoyable to drive for some people.
Good news is that for anyone who prefers a C6, they get to save some cash.
Just have a hard time picturing myself in it, in this case I am feeling very old.
I haven't noticed the Corvette since the C2, then the C5 came out then the C6 and I liked the latter the most, and bought one.
GM with the Corvette nomenclatures are about 50/50 to my liking.

Happened to me also at a Chick Fil A drive through
