sounds to me like its the wire on the starter solenoid that is causing your issue. I had a similar situation that it wasn't wanting to start half the time it was frustrating to say the least. It is fairly common for the nut holding the wire to come loose during the install or that the solenoid bolt was stressed and snapped (this is what happened to mine, you could literally wiggle the bolt on the solenoid). I would get under there and tighten that bolt and make sure the connection is good. During the install they may have not tightened it up or accidentally broke the solenoid just give it a quick peek and report back.
Just had long tubes, cam, and heads done. Have her back for two days now my car doesn't want to start. It eventually does, but takes a couple tries of hitting the start button, to over ten minutes worth.
Press the clutch in, hit start, and I hear a clicking noise. Once I release the clutch I hear the click again. All interior lights, gauges, headlights all come on and don't dim. The gauge lights do pop off when I hit the start button, but do come immediately back on once I release the clutch. Bought a new battery as was suggested to me, which didn't fix the issue.
I've also check the alternator top plug and the wire screwed into the back. Both are good.
Have no clue what could be going on. Has never had this problem in the past.
When I do get her running after a few minutes I'm getting the message " Service Charging System"
Hope someone knows what this is before taking the car to the dealership.
Thanks!!
Send it back to the person who just did the work on it and screwed it up.
SERVICE CHARGING SYSTEM
If this message displays while you are driving,
there may be a problem with the electrical charging
system. It could mean that there is a loose or
broken drive belt or that there is another electrical
problem. Have your vehicle checked right away
by your dealer. Driving while this message is
on could drain the battery.
If you must drive a short distance with the
message on, be certain to turn off the vehicle’s
accessories, such as the radio and air conditioner.
Multiple chimes sound when this message is
displayed.
To acknowledge the message, press the RESET
button. The message reappears every 10 minutes
until this condition changes
I would be looking at a wiring issue, most likely a bad ground and also verify that the belt was reinstalled in the correctly.

I'm not sure where it is, but will definitely look it up to check it out.

Yeah I looked that up the manual this morning. I'll be checking the belt when I get home as well.

The solenoid is attached to the side of the starter. The starter is located on the drivers side underneath the exhaust manifold area. When you get it lifted up and get underneath the car it is very easy to spot. This is what you're looking for. The solenoid is the smaller piece on top in the picture that has the wires attached to it. Just make sure the nuts are tight and that the solenoid bolts are not broken. the area around the bolts is made of plastic, so it is easy to snap the bolt loose from it creating a poor connection leading to it starting only when the connection is just right and other times not trying to start at all. If it is just a loose nut, tighten them back up and it should start running just fine again. If the bolt is loose from breaking, you can remove the starter very easily and take it to a battery/alternator/starter place and they can replace the solenoid on it for around $10 which is much cheaper than a few hundred for a whole new starter.
Several people have said to check the starter wire. While that is a good start, the same current has to get "back" to the battery by way of a ground. Check the heavy ground wire running to the engine block. It may be loose.
If it wasn't 5 hours away, she would have been back yesterday
If it were me, I'd call the shop that did the work, ask them their opinion and see if they'd reimburse you to get the car fixed. I would also ask the new person doing the repair if it was something related to the mods install.
It's still at the other shop. Appears several wires had melted themselves to the headers. Starter is completely fried. Hoping to hear something today. They are waiting on the new starter to show up. Then put everything back together, and see if that solves the issue. Fingers crossed!! If not, well shall see where they need to go next lol. Thing that has blown my mind more than anything I think is that when they broke the headers loose, they find the stock gasket was used. Standard practice if you break a seal you replace the gaskets, but I guess some corners are being cut. Makes you wonder what other corners have been cut......
stock gaskets are fine...most ppl reuse them...imcluding me.
sounds like the issues were caused by the wires not being secured away from the headers.

I'm hoping that is the only issue, but still waiting to hear. As far as the gaskets I 100% disagree. You'll never get the proper seal when reusing gaskets. At some point if not right away you'll begin to get leakage.
