Hey guys! So I'm looking into buying a trailer for the vette. Some of the places for shows and events are too far and would rather just trailer it.
I'm looking at enclosed and open trailers. I noticed that the trailers that are enclosed with plywood are really not that expensive but wondering the longevity of them. I assume that is why aluminum is much more expensive.
Those that have trailers, can you please give me some tips on purchasing one. If I should buy new or used, etc... Thank you all!
I have some of the same questions and I have also wondered whether there are any trailers out there with ramps we can use without the need to purchase a product like raceramps in order to load our Corvettes into the trailer. Is there anybody out there with advice for us?
From: Currently somewhere in IL,IN,KY,TN,MO,AR,MS,AL, or FL
Not only is plywood less durable it is VERY heavy compared to aluminum. Used is a LOT less expensive than new and there isn't that much that can go wrong with a trailer that wouldn't be evident with an inspection and short test ride. The only thing I've ever seen is wheel bearings that can be checked by jacking and spinning each wheel by hand.
I have a ATC Raven Lite enclosed trailer. It has plywood floor but doesnt matter to me as we store it inside so its never outside except for when towing it.
weights 2200 lbs empty
i do have to use extensions such as RaceRamps to load a Corvette.
I would HIGHLY suggest one with a driver side door on it to get out of the car after driving it into the trailer.

You have a great looking truck and trailer and the suggestion about the trailer having a drivers side door is something I wondered about. I don't know the width of enclosed trailers, but if you didn't have the side door you'd need a few extra feet in width to get out of your car. I watch Chasing Classic Cars on the Velocity Channel and they are always loading cars in enclosed trailers, but I don't remember seeing a trailer with a side door like yours.
I've thought about getting one before as well, other things to consider are the axel strength, 3500 lbs vs 5000 lbs; the width 102" which is 8'-6". The number of D rings; dove tail door; space for a generator, interior lights, place for track tires. a good winch.
and a side door like SCcues suggested.
Other things to consider would be a V front which is more aerodynamic.
Check out trailex's website. They have cool trailers but they're $$$$.
Check craigslist in your area. I think you could find a used one for $4 - $6k.
