Found out from my friend Dan in Pompano that the hinges on the C6 visor vanity mirrors freeze up after a while. Particularly when not used very often (which probably describes the majority of us) the girlfriend or wife, or driver will casually flip up the cover to use the mirror and SNAP!, the delicate little hinge will break. No big deal right? Wrong.
1) Break the cover, and the mirror lights will stay on.
2) The whole visor has to be replaced, and they are EXPENSIVE.
My '09 has only 13K on it and sits under a cover in the garage way too much. When I checked, my hinges were binding and pretty close to frozen.
So, carefully and slowly pull up the covers to expose the hinges and LUBRICATE them with your preferred lube. I used a little white lithium grease on a toothpick. WD40 or 3-in-1 would work fine, but be careful of staining the visor fabric. Work it in very slowly until you feel the binding in the hinges ease. Repeat as necessary.
This no-cost maintenance will make you much happier next time your girl wants to put on some lipstick or check her hair. Imagine her (or you) breaking a hinge and ruining a weekend or evening over an overlooked, under-engineered GM part.

That's good thinking!
I might have/probably would have made a mess of it. But, as you said, the mirror/light things hardly ever get used. Still, it's called preventive maintenance for a reason. I'll put this one in my files.
PS Plz try that photobucket copy/paste again; it isn't showing up for me.

Good tip and one that most would not give any thought to. Thanks.

Be aware that WD-40 is NOT a lubricant. It is a Water Dispersant.
Although it will act like a lubricant short term, it will evaporate leaving a residue which attracts dust making the situation worst over time.

And then sometimes, even if the hinges are lubricated, things go south anyway. My experience and fix:

Thanks for the heads up. I had my 03 for 10 years and 53K miles and no issues with the mirrors. My 13 had 15K on it and no issues with the mirrors. I do plan to put some lube on the hinges, just in case.
