After having the revelation (thanks to many of you) to not have my Vette serviced at a GM or Chevrolet Dealer, I made an appointment to go to a service enter in CT that works only on Vettes. I'm very happy I made this decision. My appointment is for next week to have my windshield wipers looked at which stop in the middle of the windshield during the intermittent cycle. I'll let you know how that turns out. When I scheduled my appointment, I talked to the service mgr and I asked him about the reliability of the LS2 and he said it was very reliable.....except for the balancers on the '05 which I have. He said he had a few in his garage right now having that repaired. I've had my Vette which has 46k miles for only 3 months and am now worried that I'm looking at a costly repair down the road. What can I expect!
Many are fine but there are a lot that fail early. Mine went out at 25,000 miles. If they say your balancer is bad, have them show you the wobble. You be able to see it clearly. I went with an aftermarket balancer (why put in the same bad part?) and my total was $1200 from a Corvette specialist. Take a look at it before you go and you can see if it is wobbling or not. If it is bad, the idler pulley at the top of the engine on the passenger side will be shaking as well. Chances are you are fine but take a look so you know what is coming.

Mine starting squeaking about a week after I bought it. 05 with 60k on it. Looked down and lo and behold I saw the balancer. Quick trip to the dealer and 900.00 later I have a new oem. I should have gone with the Ati but I was anxious to get the car back after only having it a week. By the info on this forum it is a luck of the draw to get this problem. No wobble, no squeaks, why worry. There are a lot of things that " could " go out and be costly but I don't worry about them. I just drive it like I stole it. Love my Vette.

I had the harmonic balancer replaced on my previous '06 coupe with around 68,000 miles at a local Chevy dealer. The balancer was wobbling a little too much for my liking. Price...$741 out the door. (Replaced with new GM OEM part).

I think you're getting ahead of yourself. Although this is an issue on an otherwise VERY reliable car it's still a small percentage of cars that have needed this service. Don't worry about things that haven't or may never happen. Wasted energy.

Hmmm…Have a look at this poll where 49% of the responders have replaced or will replace their balancer.
I realize many who have had no issue will not respond to this poll.. However let’s say its off by 50-75% -- that still means 12.5-25% failure rate. Something I consider completely unacceptable and GM should have stepped in to do something about it!

It is pretty ridiculous.
My best buddy and I have been monkeying with cars for a half a century and neither one of us has ever had to do anything to a HB. It's not like it's some new, untested technology.

It's smaller than your estimate. There are so many people who own 'vettes who are not on the CF. I'm on the CF and have posted many times but I didn't take the poll. People come to the internet when they have a problem to solve, thus the seemingly high number. There were only 189 posts on the HB poll thread. Compare that to the Post Fav Pic of your 'vette thread, which has well over 3000 posts. So if you take the number of posts in the Fav Pic thread and divide it with the HB poll thread you get around 6%. But even that's way too high because compared to how many vette's were built and sold there are not that many owners on this forum, just the enthusiasts and those looking to solve an issue.
