I think some people just don't know what they have, but they know what they bought.
Years ago I had been eyeing a vehicle at my local Chevrolet dealer and working with a sales rep. A few weeks passed, and I decided I was ready to buy and went to the dealer to find both him and the Used Car Manager had been fired
Seems they took on trade in a low mile Z28 that was a rebadged V6 base Camaro and paid Z28 money for it. So you can imagine a small lot, has a badged up Z06, that is really not...there is just as much chance they do or don't know what they have. This is why it's key to know what you are looking at before you buy......nice catch and share!
Nice story! People really have to do there research though.
Anybody in the market for a real Z06 is usually educated about z's and would spot this fake, BUT I had a guy ask me to do some work on his new to him 2007 Grand Sport last week. I didn't say anything until he brought me the car. The previous owner of the car went waaay out of control trying to make this car look like the 2010 GS and the present owner paid large for it. Manual transmission without the dry sump. Wasn't even a nice car and the new owner left here pretty angry. I hope he gets his money back. Just goes to show you that you need to do your homework or take someone who knows the car with you.
Thats just terrible! I think even my girlfriend knows they didn't start GS until 2010
Im a firm believer in know before you buy. If I'm purchasing anything and I don't know a lot about it , I research it. Then Ill ask someone with real world experience. Like they say a "sucker is born everyday" I glad you guys helped save a sucker from losing his money.
He must have changed the ad because there is no mention of it "being" a Z06, only that it has the conversion.
Here is your opportunity to drive your dream! This 2007 Corvette C6 is accented beautifully in a Black with Black/Red Leather combination. Pristine in every way this Vette captures attention and is powered by a 6.0L,
Dealers don't know what they have either. That's why I look for certain things in pictures that are hard to modify when I am interested in buying certain cars.
Corvettes I look for:
LT Options: HUD = 2LT, Seat Heaters = 3LT
Performance: Rotors Drilled = Z51, Fuel Rail Covers = DUH, Sport/Cruise Switch = F55 Mag Ride Control
Year: Doughboy steering wheel = 2005, Steering Wheel No Controls = 2006, Steering Wheel with Stereo no phone = 2007-2009, Steering Wheel with Stereo and Phone = 2009-2011, New Style Chrome Trimmed Steering Wheel = 2012-2013. Tombstone with Rectangular display = 2005 Tombstone no Display = 2006-2007.
I also asked Mike Furman with Criswell Chevrolet to send me a picture of the RPO Code Placard before I bought my 2013 Grand Sport from him. He most willingly did. I knew that he has sold more Corvettes than I had ever seen but even God makes mistakes. Why do we have Mosquitos and Stink Bugs?
