I just received my Mid America catalog a and started to look at what is available and noticed that the model year 2005 is skipped over on some after market mdse.
What makes the 2005 different? From the 03-07 years. because of this I am going to walk away from this year that I was about to buy!

Because apart from the 2005 pulley "issue" , nothing else on the 2005 c6 ever breaks, and hence no need for replacement parts in all those catalogs.
And did someone mention the One time ever, special 2005 custom Corvette steering wheel. Not the equinox steering wheel that 2006+ models received.
The '05 is the first year of the generation (C6), and it has a few things that are unique to it, some of which are leftovers from the C5. The automatic is 4 speeds, with no paddle shifters, the rear diff is different. The steering wheel was changed for the '06 run. The airbags are able to be turned on/off manually. The dash and center console are slightly different. Those are just what I can remember off the top of my head. Someone will come up with more, I'm sure.
This means many after market parts won't fit the "05. Especially now that it is so far after the fact, and such a small percentage of the total C6 numbers. Five years ago, there was much more available.
I have an 05 and I dont think (other than steering wheel) that the interior is any different from other years. Most everything is interchangeable on these cars (except for some drivetrain stuff). I surely wouldn't walk away from a nice 05 for a good price. They do have a weaker rear differential though...so be careful of any wheel hop.
While going through Mid America I was checking out the various programmers and they left out 2005.
I am trading in a pristine 02. A4 coupe with 24,000 miles with no issues.
I would hate to get involved with a money pit. I just want the vert for 3 yrs and then jump into a 2014 coupe.
I never owned a vette vert only coupes since 1968.
I test rode just about every year C6 and ended up with the 05 vert based on overall value(options, low mileage, price, aftermarket extras). Couldn't be happier. I will eventually move to a C7 but that's down the road.
I have a 05 and it has been a great car. A ton of fun. I did change out the center console because I did not like the silver one. The above is right, the differential is weaker, but only on the m6's I have heard. I have had mine for 2.5 years trouble free. I do try to stay out of wheel hop. If you can get a good price on one and you only plan to keep it for 3 years I say go for it. I think that an 05 might be easier to sell when It comes time because if someone is stretching to afford a c6 then your car might be more attractive than the same car 4 5 6 years newer and 4 5 6 thousand more. Just my experience when I had an 04 Caddy deville that was super clean I had a hell of a time selling it. That model was the same from 00-05 so someone could get a car that looked just like mine for 3-4k why would they spend double that for mine. I may be off about that, I just know that I had a hell of a time selling that car. It was impeccable condition, I looked at over 50 before I bought that one and it was the cleanest by far.
I am one of those who limited myself to $30K cash and all I could find were 05 Coupes. Mostly Automatics.
Was initially looking for any C6 under $30K <25k miles 6SP with HUD NAV 1SB (3LT) Z51 NO Magnetic ride. Had hard time finding even a Coupe.
When I spied the Vert with 23K at $32K I offered $29500 and they accepted. I thought it was a good deal at the time. But in retrospect I probably could have found an 08 Coupe with all that had I been more patient.
I really wanted an 08+ But dealers here wanted almost $40K for them with 50K and that was not happening. I think it will be easy to sell for $27K in the next couple years. I won't put 6K on it with a bike and two other vehicles.

I have a mag red 6-speed. No problems at all. It drives like new and looks like new too, I've put about 1.5K on her this year and all with a smile. I owe $ on it still so IDK what I'll do when she's paid off, I always wanted a C6 ZO6, but I hate car payments with a passion. BTW, I love the steering wheel of my 05, so much better than the C5 one.
Hi
The one I looked at had every option and 15,000 miles including auto top.
But it was in a vette dealer so I will pay extra plus I have a trade in
15k miles is great. I only buy used with under 20k miles. I had two on my list to look at one afternoon. My 05 with 14k miles and an 07 with 19k miles. The 07 was abused. Ripped interior, service lights kept turning on, etc. I wanted newer but the 05 was in such clean shape, I couldn't pass it up. The vette you are considering sounds pretty nice. Post some pics if you end up with it.

I have owned around 25 vettes from all of the first six generations and of those I owned first year cars from the first 4 generations. The 63 split window, the 68 convert and 84 Z51 coupe were all new when I bought them and the first year cars were without a doubt the most troublesome and problematic of all that I have owned. I waited for the 5th year with the C5 and the third year with the C6 and they were pretty much trouble free and the only thing other than normal maintenance with the 2007 convert after 7 1/2 years has been the replacement of the two trunk hold open struts.
There were some problems with the 05 related to DBS (Dead battery syndrome), Active handling issues, Radio noise and inability to play MP3's and Roof delaminating on the coupe. The big item to me was the 4 speed auto trans and differential that had been carried over from the C5's. In 2006 they beefed up the drive train to handle the C6's greater horsepower boost and added the new 6 speed paddle shifter automatic which was a big improvement.
The other items are more cosmetic like the large 05 steering wheel and the shark fin XM antenna which disappeared with the 06.
