Window Replacement Question.
May just be me but I'd insist on a GM branded windshield for the HUD. And nothing less.

The thought of demanding only GM glass from insurance companies, and paying another thousand bucks will only get us all paying more insurance rate increases as we get our new windshields replaced every couple of years.
Save yourself some aggravation, lower your blood pressure, and just have them install it. They know what they are doing.
With your reasoning I would expect two quotes every 6 months from my insurance company. #1 for OEM repair bits, #2 for the cheap crap that may or may not fit the car but hey we saved some money for our company shareholders and that's what we're all about.
You want cheaper under spec body panels used on your car when it needs one replaced? Bad fitment, gaps around the body joints? Why wouldn't I expect the same quality of replacement for a windshield vs. a quarter panel, hood etc. after a part is damaged in a wreck?
At a minimum I would expect my insurance provider to provide me in writing a guarantee that if they would only authorize a non GM factory windshield designed for my Vette with HUD to be perfect or they would pay to have it replaced again and again, till it was optically clear and the HUD was bright and crisp on my windshield then I'd be looking for a new insurance provider.

I have a windshield replaced every other year. That's what it averages. At least that is what it has been for the last eight years. I could reasonably expect my Corvette's insurance to drop five hundred bucks a year if I take the glass with the name buffed off, model used by most replacement companies.
I am a big supporter of genuine factory parts, I have made a living most of my life by working for dealers that only used such parts.
There are several large replacement glass companies that use the same exact glass, with the film for a HUD, and I doubt any of them are using glass that has been banged out in some third world country and doesn't meet the federal safety standards.
Thinking that OEM glass is perfect is a big mistake. Otherwise there would be NO need for warranty on new cars. They would be perfect.
I use my car as a daily driver, and don't expect my insurance company to try and make my car into anything more than what it is, or to better it when it's damaged. It's not a garage queen, a collectors car or anything else, other than a nice ride. I'm proud of it.
You want high priced insurance, then go for it. You want collectors car insurance, then buy it. I would rather spend the difference on golf *****.
Personally I am surprised that my car is as cheap to insure as it is.
I didn't use Safelite, but would if my insurance company wanted them to replace mine next time.
