You'll have to figure out where the other end of the cable goes. 07 nav doesnt have aux input. Does it have xm? It could go to the xm receiver and be disconnected.
Chances are your car has (or had at one time) a GM PAL unit installed. I f you have XM, you can look under the carpet over the left rear wheel well, to see if the other end of the cable goes there. If no XM, then the PAL unit (if you have one) would probably be located in the dash behind or beneath the factory radio.
wouldn't that mean that it should get recognized when I plug in an Ipod?
would it make sense for someone to remove the part behind the navi unit and not the cable itself?

ill be sure to check it out, for anyone else that has one of these, (as it looks like that's what it is when I connect the ipod it says cannot charge accessory, but still seems to recognize some kind of connection...when I press srce button on the navi unit, no option comes up other than the xm, fm1/2 am1/2 etc...is there some kind of trick to access the PAL interface through the unit?
Guys I have a black cable in my centre console which was already there when I bought the car
It's an iPhone 4 connector but when I plug in iPod or iPhone it says not supported and doesn't even charge the devices
Factory navi unit... Any idea what this black cable us for?
Car is an 07 3lt z51
I have the same cable in my 2005 coupe. When I plug my iPhone into it, I then press a button on my after market stereo and it switches it to play my music from the iPhone.
Check all buttons on the stereo to see if it changes modes.
Its a factory NAVI unit, I just messed around with it for 20 minutes, tried XM2, XM1, different FM stations...all I get is the message on my ipod that cannot charge this accessory...and I can't get it to play through the car...ARRGGG

Try this, plug it in then tap the music button on your phone. Then tap the song button on your phone and try tapping one of the songs. That cord may not charge the phone but should play the music.
Sometimes when I plug the phone in it says does not recognize, but then I due what I mentioned above and it works.
Let me know.
You really need to find out where the other end of that cable leads to. It may be disconnected from anything and will never work.
Its possible it was connected to an aftermarket hu and the previous owner put the factory one back in and left that cable connected to nothing.
that's my issue...I have a srce button which doesn't show an ipod option...only xm's, am, and FM's...
As noted, the PAL (if installed and working) doesn't show as a source, but replaces XM2. Go to XM2, and try to play a song from the ipod/iphone and see what happens....
I go to XM2 and it just plays the preview channel, I plug in my ipod and nothing, I try to play a song and nothing...so im starting to think its not installed not sure why they would remove the PAL and not the cable unless as someone suggested it had something to do with an aftermarket head unit which was replaced before I bought it...
