Gators are usually only really dangerous during mating season.
I used to camp in the Everglades during hunting season and went fishin' there all the time. We saw some big'uns... like 15'++. It would get hot during the day, jump in the water from the boat and get right back in.

We don't have those in Canada, thankfully.
The only thing roaming around here is deers, skunks, lots of squirrels, racoons and lots of cats.
Thanks for sharing your story, I love Florida, when is the mating season of Alligators ?

Yep I grew up on a lake in the woods of north Jersey so water does not bother me. I swim in the pond behind the house and the neighbors from NJ NY who think a tree is an anomaly freak out. They have fences behind their homes!! I like the view and built a boardwalk and swim dock. MUCH wildlife to look at. Very serene while neighbors put in pools and ala Arizona and Las Vegas type landscaping, We went au natural. Nature's pool is the best.

I too occassionally see those here where I live in Jupiter Florida..couple months ago was cruising around the golf course and on a water feature near our house here is a 6-7' gator sunning himself. The golf duffers have learned not to fetch errant golf ***** ;-)
Usually when I am outside doing car stuff or whatever this is what joins me… very friendly Sandhill Cranes…they just walk up and look
They do have an inquisitive look

I backed my 'vette out of the garage early this morning, to wash it before the sun gets too hot.
When I walked around the side of the house where the garden hose is located, (red arrow), I ran smack into this little guy.
Gators are born about 6" long, and they grow about 6" a year.
This little dude was about 18" long so he'd be about 2 years old.
You can bet I looked around to see if mama was in the area before going any further.
It's gonna be a good day!

I'm glad that so many of you are using this thread to post photos of beautiful wildlife where you live.
There is so much beauty here in Florida, that it continues to amaze me even after 20 years.
Lots of folks never take the time to stop, and look around them. I mean really look.
Sometimes my wife and I will take a walk through wetland preserves, or lakes very near to our house. I'll bring the camera and shoot photos like these...

It's good thing I don't live in Florida. Because if one of them beasts got between me and my house, I'm shooting him. The state of Florida can't lock me up if they can't find his carcass. Heck, I've got a squirrel crawling around on my roof right now that I'm fixin to put the cross hairs on!

There's a considerable difference between the way the place looks today, and the way it looked 16 months ago.
