2007 TPMS problem
Here is the situation. A couple of weeks ago my wife noticed some clanking sound coming from the right side of the car. I took it into the dealership and they told me that TPMS sensor had come off and was rattling around inside the wheel. The dealer told me they did not have the expertise to be able to fix it and I should take it a tire shop.
So I took it to a tire shop. Sure enough the sensor inside had come loose and that was causing the rattling sound. Now, just to keep in mind the tires and wheels are not the stock ones that came with the car. Whoever owned it before me had put on Michelin Pilot Sport for tires and the wheels are made by Forgeline.
Apparently the sensors are held in place by some banding that runs around the wheel and holds the sensor in place. The tire company that I took it to said it was not your typical setup for holding that sensor in place. They told me the only way to get it right would be to get new wheels. Huh? What? New wheels, no way. They put it back together and 10 miles down the road I am getting some error message on the dash saying to check the TPMS. I look at the pressures and one that they fixed (and was working when I left) is now showing XX for the tire pressure on that tire. But no clanking sound.
So now I am sort of baffled. I don't want to take it back to that tire shop because they want me to get new wheels in order to be able to fix it properly.
Today I try another tire shop in town. They use some gadget to see if the TPMS is reading and it reads good in all the tires but the one that has been giving me trouble. They told me they would not know what they are up against unless they look at it. So they pull the tire off and check it out. They had a sensor in their shop that they were going to try to get to work. I guess getting the banding back in place was causing them some problems. So they used a zip tie. What? You serious, yes. Then they told me after another half an hour that the sensor they had to replace mine they could not get to work either.
In the meantime, I went to Forgeline's website. They are showing a TPMS bracket that I can buy and have installed. I am no expert in any of this but from the looks of it, a hole will have to be drilled in the wheel for this bracket to be put in place. I plan on calling Forgeline on Monday and hopefully this will work.
I have a couple of questions. Has anyone had any similar experiences like this and if so, am I going about this with the right approach? Also, it looks like I am going to be getting a new sensor. Are there any special tools needed to get the existing or new sensor working properly?
Sure could use some advice on this. Thank you in advance.

Pony up the money to have the TPMS sensors correctly mounted inside the rims, hence the mounting bands mounted to all four rims, then the TPMS mounted correctly in the holding fixture.
Why the bands where not mounted to the rims where they were first installed on a the car (instead of have baked rigged) is a mystery.
Simply, with the long off set of the stock fill stem, the stock TMPS will not be long enough to get a air pressure fitting to it to fill the tires, so the TPMS is mounted inside the rim (with the schrader valve in the TPMS removed) instead.

So are you saying go to Forgeline and get whatever hardware they have like you posted the picture of? If yes, that is what I intend to do.
Or are you saying, don't use the Forgeline solution which does not use the bands from what I can see.
If it comes to it, I will get new wheels just so I can have a system that works properly and is installed properly. I just figured there has to be a better solution than spending a lot of money on new wheels.
My apologies as I am not playing dumb. I am pretty clueless and now I have the people who are supposed to be "experts" seemingly at a loss what to do.

After feeling very frustrated with a couple of local tire shops in regards to my TPMS which was give me a problem, I did make some contact with Forgeline who made the wheels. They have these brackets that they designed to mount the sensors. Dano523 also provided me with some very helpful information. I think part of my problem was this happened late on a Friday and over a weekend so getting help was a bit of a challenge.
So basically what it came down to was this. I contacted Forgeline and ordered the brackets. Cost me about $50 for a set of 4. I then ordered a replacement sensor online which cost me about $50. The dealer wanted over $100 for the sensor. I got one on Amazon.com. It took about 4 to 5 days to get all the parts.
I contacted the tire place that I went to who said they could install the brackets. It took them a little over 2 hours for all 4 wheels. Cost me $80 in labor. All together, about $180 and all is working good now.
Thanks to this forum and Forgeline. Peace out.
