I recently purchased a used nav. After install, and of course theftlock clear (thanks local locksmith freebie) , I noticed it has not been updated. Both car and nav are both 2005. I really think $200 is a bit steep... anyone know where it can be gotten cheaper, other than Ebay?
You really don't need the latest version. Get a version or 2 earlier and they go for around $80-$90 on ebay. I had v. 1 for my 05 and moved up to v. 6 for $80. If you want the latest version you'll have to pay that $200.
Don't expect all the roads missing from your '05 version to be on a new disc, they won't. The updates seem to be more for the paying Advertizers (POI). Roads that were missing on my '05 NAV are missing on my '08 also. Some restaurants that have been closed for years are still shone on the NAV.
2013 Update Corvette $110 Factory Disc GM Pt Number 22944166
I just bought this on Ebay for my 05 It Did a SW upgrade and works great! MP3 files play as well. but they did before off CD. Car came with original NAV disc. Useless around here where there have been many new roads and developments
There is a short bridge that was built over the waterway into the Mall that did not show up on previous version as well as some new development roads. The did show up on this one.
The only thing missing from your disc are any aboslutely new neighborhood streets which chances are you won't need to locate, if you do then worry about the update.

New?
Streets that have existed for at least 20 years don't show on my 2008 NAV.

i just bought a used 2006 from the GM dealer. It was a certified used vehicle. The manual says you get 1 free upgrade if you buy a certified used vehicle. I went to the dealer and show the owners manual to them and they ordered it for me. I got to tell you I was disappointed. It has my subdivision but it will now route me past the main road. My new GMC has no problem getting me home.
bottom line - I still use my iPhone for navigation. quicker and easier to use.

Thanks in advance!
I bought the latest version 9.0 2013 update directly from the map supplier "HERE" (formally known as Navteq) on sale for $159. I sold the prior version 8.0 2012 disc on eBay and the net cost to upgrade was $25. I have updated to the newest map 3 times and each time sold the prior map and the total cost for the 3 updates was less than $75. The map DVD is compatible with a number of different GM vehicles and model years so they sell very fast.
They tend to have them on sale around the holidays and fathers day for around $150.
