Default C6 Header Install Question

Hello everyone,

I had a few questions regarding installing headers on a base C6. I have tried to find a very detailed write-up but I haven't found anything for someone who has never changed the headers before. I recently removed the spark plugs but when I took them out the metal housing and spring came out with it. Is this normal? How do I go about putting it back. Also, I am not familiar with O2 sensors whatsoever. How do I remove these to get the headers out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Gabe

This is a pretty good write up.

Should only need basic tools, o2 sensor socket.

Thank you Guinzu.

Could someone tell me if the metal housings around the spark plugs were supposed to come out? How do I put them back in? Also, how do i remove/install the O2 sensors?

The metal shield around the spark plugs do come out. They should just push back in. Careful, they can cut your fingers good.

The o2 sensors are removed using an o2 sensor socket. Like this

btw...a lot of people (including reputable shops) toss the pretty stainless fasteners away and use the factory exhaust manifold bolts. Also, use a new set of GM gaskets...chuck the Fel pro's that came with the headers in the trash.
