Have clicking notchy feeling in steering. Dealer says steering rack needs replace and no new units available. Have to use rebuilt.
Anyone had this done? 427CE with 6k miles. Not to crazy about rebuilt going in my 80k vette.
Thats the facts unfortunately. If it was my car, I would only use a remanufactured one from Turn One. They are the best out there. The one the dealer will get is from a local parts house and who knows who did the rebuild -----
There is no way that the steering rack has to replaced at 6000 miles! Go to another dealership.

You guys should know what you are talking about before you respond with your answers to which you know nothing about. The clicking in the steering wheel is a known problem in 2013 corvettes. It is a magnet that has come loose somewhere in or near the steering gear. Apparently it cannot be reaffixed back in place and the solution is to replace the steering gear. This is straight from a GM bulletin. And how do I know this, because I had it done with 20 miles on my brand new '13 GS. They will only give you a re manufactured steering rack. That is the procedure. BTW op didn't you send me a PM not long ago asking me about this? Whats the matter you didn't believe me as I gave you the same answer then as I posted now. This is the way GM deals with this problem so deal with it. You get a re manufactured rack PERIOD!
Yes you did reply and Im surprised that only a reman rack is available. So I go with it. Has your GS been okay since the replacement? the one question that cannot be answered is has the problem with the magnet been addressed so I wont happen again.
Atleast I will get a free alignment since the front cradle has to be dropped some.
I had mine replaced at 34K miles because of an oil leak. Same story, you get a remanufactured unit. When mine was replaced it cured a vibration that I had been chasing for almost three years. It's been 8K miles since and all is well.

Everything has been perfect.I guess the a/c compressor and or lines come out also as my system had to be recharged after they changed out the rack.
I had my rack replaced in my 427 shortly after I picked it up new. The remanufactured unit has been fine for about 8K miles so far. And yes, this is a well-documented issue.
This is getting old. My 09z51 and 11 GS never had this issue. my crappy Equinox doesn't have the problem. and you cant get a new rack only reman. We will see what the tech says. It was so good after it was first fixed. Tighter and no problem.
