Is the A/C recirculation button set to off by default on a 2008 C6? Every time I start the car up, I have to reset it to ON. If off is default, is there any way bypass the setting?

It is set automatically to on or off as needed if you have one or both sides set for auto temperature control. The intent of recirc is a fast cool down in the summer so it will only be on for a limited time until the car gets cool.

Well, I guess if I want the recirculation on full time, I'll have to run in manual mode--strange! Thanks for the info.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, why do you want to run full time recirculation? What do you find objectionable about the automatic system choosing between outside air and recirc modes on its own?
I only ask because a friend of mine with climate control in his '99 insists on running his AC in manual mode all the time. He's constantly fiddling around with the fan speed, circulation, and temp controls. When I drive it, I just set the temperature I want, and let it do it's own thing.

It's funny you should ask that because I run my a/c in full manual mode also. Put it this way I run everything in manual mode that I can. I like to be in charge and know there can be no mistakes made by a computer or control board ( as in auto mode ) on something I am trying to control. About the only thing I let run for itself would be cruise control, and even then I have a say in that by just stepping on the brake to disengage it.

I live on the beach on Hwy 90 in Mississippi. I am amazed at how many people here drive up and down the beach road in old cars and trucks that blow that rich mixture black smoke out their back side. I'd love to be able to switch on the recirculation button in auto mode and have it stay on so I don't have to smell my LS3 and everybody else's exhaust. This Vette is the only vehicle that I own that won't let you do that.

In auto mode you can press the recirculation button and it will stay on till you turn it off. At least mine does. I use it when I am behind a diesel.
Having it on also helps evacuate the hot air in the cabin top up or down and it helps the heat that builds up in the drive train tunnel area and console so your legs aren't as hot.

Exactly, the air outside is crap and I want it filtered. And it is annoying the Vette turns this feature off by default.

The reason you have any ability to shut off outside air is because the federal law decided many years ago that too many people were dieing because of exhaust fumes entering the cabin when driving with the windows up. The law demanded a certain minimum amount of outside air at all times. Then people started complaining that the A/C couldn't cool a hot car after being parked in the sun all day. So the ability to recirc was added. That law is still in effect and even on recirc you still are getting outside air, just less.
But you may be in luck. The environmentalists have now decided that all that outside air being heated and cooled is causing global warming which is why it is so cool in many areas this summer. They want to go back to sealing off the cabin as we could in the 50's. They will give companies a CO2 credit if they jump through the right hoops with default recirc. http://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/40/86.1866-12 See section C. Aren't you glad the government protects you from all these evil corporations by dragging you first one direction and then the other?
