Default trade in

so i stopped in at grey chevrolet in stroudsburg, pa. where i bought my 013 vette. there is a man there with, i was told it was a 08 base ragtop, that he was trading up for a 014 1lt ragtop. i overheard the salesman say that they offered the guy about 16, 17 grand for his trade. i don't know much about the value of cars but it seemed to me like it was sort of a low figure. the car seemed in good shape(a little dirty) as far as i can tell. i told myself i can only imagine what they would offer me on a base 2lt coupe with 6000 on the clock. probably very little. i would love to trade up but we're paying the house mortgage off which is more important to me. my vette is paid off so we'll be debt free. it is my opinion that the dealers are really screwing the consumer big time. there was a beautiful white 2lt with red interior with a price tag of 64+ grand and the salesman told me they're adding on another 4 grand to the price. i said,"almost 69 grand and its not even a z51 packaged car." for another 15 grand you could have the z06.

It's hard to say without knowing the mileage. If he had 60k or above miles 1lt, I could see that as a trade in value.

I would not be the guy shopping at that dealer.

It sounds like that dealer was not interested too much in stocking that car right now, getting late in the season for vert.
People need to shop many different dealers also to find the right trade-in too.
I was fortunate to find one that had a vette I wanted and the trade value was right on what I was hopping for.

Not sticking up for the dealer but, to me, it doesn't sound like you have all the facts...
As for having a paid off vette and a soon to be paid off house...I agree

Wrong time of year to buy, my best deals are always in the winter months. Dec-Feb. If it is a very terrible winter watch the prices fall.
