While I understand this post is a few years old... and the consensus back in 2014 on rear window Louvers seems to by unanimous... the Florida heat and south Florida crime has me looking into means of concealing the contents of the car as well as blocking direct sunlight from even hitting the window...
I’m not sure if these louvers where available at the time this post was initially made, however, I can’t say that I “hate” the look of them. I actually think they look decent. I just have not seen enough pictures of them on C6’s... I think they would look even better if they where color matched...
Has anyone installed these? If so, post some pics! Also what are your personal thoughts?
SPEED SAFE, NICK
You can also tell those are cheap, because they do not match the styling of car in the slightest. The C6 is all about smooth lines and flow, and those are all jagged edges that you'd find on a more angular car like the C7.
I bet they age horribly in the sun, too.
It honestly doesn’t look that bad in the pictures.(photoshopped?) . I’m just not so sure of the fitment and quality.
Im asking for a little more than “don’t do it” “just because”. In the picture above, they do look good from a distance... I’m just not sure what they look like up close.
I’ve seen a few C7s with them and they looked really good. Both where color matched to the car making them look more exotic car like...
I do feel the C7 has a flatter lid making the transition lines between the 3 pieces flow a bit better. With the C6 rounded window, it creates a seam between the 3 pieces that I would like to get a closer look of... and that honestly would be the main point that could potentially kill the idea, well that and the fact that they are held on with double sided tape. Not a fan of sticker parts... however this is not an aero part, it’s an external sun shade.
While I’m not one to run my cars through a JC Whitney magazine like it where a tasteless parts magnet, Overall they do look good in the renderings provided... however It looks to me that even those where photoshopped.
Thanks for the response either way. I do understand corvette guys tend to be very similar to Harley riders...they tend to have cookie cutter mentality’s that see it as sacrilegious if one was to step out of that pre-formed mold.
This is actually pretty cool looking, but the problem I have is that you lose the awesome trunk space afforded by the rounded window. That being said, this looks quite nice.
The purpose was to block sunlight from entering the car through the massive expanse of glass at the rear thus reducing interior heat levels. They were designed so that you can actually see pretty well looking back through the rear-view mirror.
I don't think they had anything to do improving aerodynamics.
Yep, I had these on an old 76 Camaro back in the 80's. They did a great job of blocking out the sun to keep your rear speakers from cracking and the rear window shelf from getting discolored but you could still see out of the rear window without any issues. Folks today are spoiled with the awesome tint that is available now, back then it all turned purple after a few weeks in the sun.
Here you go on a real car & I’ll stand by my opinion of hideous
LOL.. Thank you for finding that picture, I could not find any pictures anywhere. this is why I asked for more pictures from those who have them... While I am still not against the idea, I dont care for the execution of the one in the picture you posted. I think that if they made them out of a stronger material, they would not need to make the edges 1/2 thick for structural integrity. I bet they would look a whole lot better made with Carbon Fiber that would allow them to be designed with thinner/cleaner edges.
He’s right about that. There is a lot of **** people put on their corvettes that look way worse than the louvers.
so if he wants to do it we shouldn’t bash him. Good luck.
But I'm not really sold on them myself... I just wanted to see pictures from those who may have installed them... I dont think they look that bad... however after a couple new pics being posted, they dont look as good close up as they do from a distance.
Yeah, the problem with these pics is that they appear to be photoshopped. They are from the manufacture and not from actual customers. If you compare these pics with actual pictures of them being installed on customer vehicles, they dont look the same... and dont look very good up close.
Where have you found "actual pictures of them being installed on customer vehicles"? Please post them..
There goes the short bus...
Your contribution of posting photo shopped pictures that have already been posted clearly show you have not been following and have clearly skipped the reading and comprehension portion of the discussion.
It was already mentioned that the photo shopped pics from the manufacture seemed to be the only ones online and that they appeared to be photo shopped... and then you jump off the short buss and post more pics from the manufacture and seem surprised to learn they where photo shopped and then ask me to post pictures from actual vehicles which I have previously mentioned where difficult to find and was asking for pics from people who may have or seen them. Dude, get back on the bus and keep going.
Go back and look at the pics from previous post... Post 42... dont forget to read the discussion for context clues.
Thanks for playing... someone give him a participation trophy!
Easy there big fella, it's all in fun. Good luck with your louver project.
LOL... There's no "louver Project"... Just asking questions which where already answered before you posted... so I was just having fun with some creative writing.
