I was sitting at a red light with my right turn signal on, in the city. Light turns green and I make my turn, I don't make it one block and I see the lights in my mirror, just by luck I saw a parking spot and pulled in. The officer (a Sargent) pulls up next to me with his window down and says, "your not in trouble, that is the nastiest sounding Corvette I have ever heard, you have to pop the hood"
We spent the next 20 minutes talking cars, he is a Corvette guy too, he has a 1970 with an LT-1 that he is almost done restoring. He wanted to know what I was running for an exhaust, I told him Borla Stingers, plus the headers, cam and Procharger make for an evil sounding combination. He asked me to start it again, and he was swearing to himself that he was going to the local Chevy dealer after work to look at and buy a C-6. He said he had thought about the C-6 but my car pushed him over the edge. We laughed and had a great gear head conversation.
He told me he would block traffic so I could pull out, knowing he wanted to be behind me to hear the car, and not wanting to take advantage of the situation, I gave it a little gas, enough to hear the exhaust note bounce of the buildings but not enough to break traction or the speed limit.
It was the most original way I have ever met a fellow Corvette owner/gearhead. He was a great guy, and it made my day.
Great post and story.
If I saw a red light in my mirror I would have known before he reached my window that I would get a ticket for loud exhaust (Corsa sports), tinted windows, no front plate and what ever else he could think of. California is a great state.
