Default Third Gear Doesn't Like Me

Don't have issues with any of the others, but frequently when I am driving hard and shift to third it doesn't want to engage and grinds. Anybody else have this problem? Transmission issue? Previous owner put in an RPM gearbox.

That was mine also... Is this pretty much only resolved with a transmission rebuild or replacement?

Fawk... given that it already has an aftermarket transmission, I'm surprised it's going already. Drives great otherwise, probably will just deal with it as is. Not good for the track though when I'm really slamming it into third

Mine was locking me out of 3rd on high rpm shifts so I picked up an MGW shifter…problem solved

Interesting, how much and how hard was the install? I believe the car already has a short throw shifter, but no clue which kind as the previous owner purchased it.

It's possibly your shifting technique. When driving aggressively, some people like to force 3rd gear and push too far to the right. The 3rd gear gate is almost a straight forward push. Next time try palming the **** I'm sure you have plenty of experience doing that and just give a deliberate push forward instead of to the right. Try this before spending any money. Not that the MGW wouldn't be an improvement regardless.

I know what you're saying, but I push straight forward... I've taken Ron Fellows class and didn't have any problems in the C7 I am not missing the gear, I get it in the gate but then the transmission audibly grinds and RPMs need to drop before it will engage into 3rd.

It's the newest model mgw shifter with the lower shift box. I picked it up used off a forum member for $275 but they run for $360 new on their website (mgwltd.com). It's amazing quality and I installed it in under 3 hours. Pretty simple I just took my time and made sure it was all right. There's a ton of youtube videos for the install process

If it only does it when cold, it's the nature of the beast. Lots of threads about this in the Z06 section. My 2013 this once in a blue moon, and only when cold.

Well then it's probably an issue with your trans/shifter. I figured I'd address a common C6 driving complaint. Try the MGW first. For a few hundred dollar$ you may fix the problem. If not and you still need trans work, at least you have a good shifter to go along with it.
