What is an LT4?

They must mean 4LT, that's the option package. The LT4 was a motor option back in the C4 era. The option packages range from 1LT to 4LT. The 4LT is pretty much a loaded car. I don't know the exact contents of that package, but I'm sure someone here knows it.

You're Right It's 4LT
Thanks. This car doesn't look loaded up (no nav. or magnetic ride). It has black stripes down the middle of the hood which makes me wonder if it is one of those Hertz rental cars. It has stock wheels though and I thought the rentals had special wheels.

Just an FYI: when I was looking for a corvette, I saw a LOT of ads describing the car as an LT4, but upon looking at the pictures, the car was actually a 1LT trim level car. I actually think that *some* of the advertisers are doing this to intentionally mislead people into thinking it is a 4LT by not *actually* lying since there is no LT4 option available on the car!

However, as the years wore on, there were more and more options included with all the packages from 1LT to 4LT.
For instance, by the time we reached 2013, a 2LT included a premium sound system, navigation unit, HUD, etc., that previously was only available in more expensive packages.

You are correct that the Hertz cars had a black band down the hood and over the top. They also had a special 7 spoke wheel so someone has modified the car you are looking at by either adding a stripe or changing wheels.
As mentioned, LT4 is an engine on older Corvettes and no LT4 designation was ever offered on any C6.

Yes, and for a bit of trivia, the same vette LT4 engine was also an option on a limited number of 30th Anniversary SLP SS Camaro's in 1997. They were manuals and came with a light-weight, billet steel undercut flywheel... that was not offered on the vettes.

If it's purported to be the 4LT option package and doesn't have wrapped leather interior, tell the dealer to take a hike. He's either misrepresenting the car, is an idiot, or both.

And if it does have wrapped leather, you may want to take a look at the 4LT dash threads where people have had problems with the adhesive coming loose and possibly weigh that into your decision. (I say this having just bought a 2008 4LT last week after not having option packages be a priority in my search, but thinking "Well gee, 4LT does make the inside look a little nicer..." and not having seen reports of the issues).

Add for an additional bit of trivia, there were 29 LT4 Firehawks done in 97 as well. I had one.

It's a 3LT
It's the most powerful motor ever made by GM.

Crazy they already retrofitted it to a 2008.

Thanks everybody for the info! They sent me the build sheet and it is a 3LT. It's got chrome wheels, dual mode exhaust, and the Z51 option which includes the performance axle ratio (automatic). Wish it had Nav. and magnetic ride, but it only has 18,000 miles and ther're asking 34,000. It's yellow with the black hood stripe. Do you think that's a good deal?
