thank you,
so what is the construction of a run flat tire compared to regular tires?

and I'll bet they're more expensive.

$400 to $600 more for a set depending on brand. They have very stiff sidewalls compared to non run flats and wear faster because they are less compliant than non run flats.

The newer breed of runflats are not as stiff as the old ones were but they still have to have a sidewall you can drive on for 50 to 100 miles with no air in the tire. I have a set of Bridgestone Potenza RFT's on my Grand Sport with about 15K on them and they look good.....I don't think they ride bad and I want to be able to keep going if I do get a flat......

No run flats on the ZO6 or ZR1.

I ditched my run flats for a set of Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position non-run flat summer tires. The ride is much better, quieter on the highway, and more grip on the track. I keep some tire slime and a pump in the trunk just in case but I'd call AAA first if I got a flat.

From the Owner's Manual:

"The valve stems on your run-flat tires have sensors that are part of the Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS). See Tire Pressure Monitor System on page 5-73. These sensors contain batteries which are designed to last
for 10 years under normal driving conditions. See your dealer/retailer if you ever need to have a wheel replaced, or if the sensors ever need replacement.
Notice: Using liquid sealants can damage the tire valves and tire pressure monitor sensors in the vehicle’s run-flat tires. This damage would not be covered by warranty. Do not use liquid sealants
in the vehicle’s run-flat tires
"

Warranty to the TPMS aside, I've heard it is a bear to clean the inside of the tires/wheels/sensors, and will cost a pretty penny to do so.

Which is why I said I would call a tow truck first. The tire slime is in case I can't get one out to me. I'm out in Utah, it's pretty easy to get stuck far from civilization very quickly.

My post was for those who haven't done their research as well as you.

Despite what the can says, it is not TPMS safe. Only to be used in extreme emergency with eyes wide open on the potential issues, RF or not.

The Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position Run Flats don't wear any faster... I got over 30,000 miles out of my first set, on a Grand Sport, and that included a lot of spirited driving and some track time too.

HUH ??....if compliant as it is applied here means that in the beginning that most runflats were high-po tires with a softer tread compound made for better cornering....then yes....that is why they don't last as long. For us common folk....The run flats used/use a much softer compound for better grip in the twisties.....softer compound = shorter tread life.
