As I was driving to work yesterday I saw a rainbow:
Normally I love seeing them, but not this time. I had washed the car a few days ago, it had stayed pretty clean, and wife and I were heading to the Blueridge Parkway in the afternoon. This is our first mountain trip and I wanted the car nice and shiny for pics. The rainbow meant I was going to hit rain on the way to work. It ended up being just enough to get the car damp and create major water spots when it dried.
Naturally I had to give it a quick wash when I got home so it would be nice and clean for the trip to the mountains. Hopefully I'll have some nice pics to post later today.
Turns out the rainbow was just the beginning. Spent yesterday cruising the BRP. Had some nice clear weather and rode with the top down, but also had drizzle and rain that required putting the top back up. Here are a few pics.
Stayed at the Switzerland Inn.
View from the lawn as the sun was rising
Foliage has just about peaked
Finally got a pic of the car. Unfortunately the top was up at this point due to the rain.
And another of the car. The angle did a good job of hiding the grime we had picked up while driving.
Thanks. Yesterday was pretty good. Saw plenty of foliage in between periods of rain. Left Little Switzerland this morning and saw little but fog/clouds most of the way to Asheville. Decided we had enough and got on I-26 and headed back to Columbia early. I've got some more pics to post, but the car is in the driveway begging me for a thorough wash first.
We participated in the National Corvette Caravan and afterwards toured through Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and back to TN and KY before heading west and home. I had looked forward to driving the Blue Ridge Parkway for two years. When we finally arrived at the BRP it was so foggy and heavy rain that at times we could not see the highway. We finally had to give up and take an alternative route to Asheville. The next day was clear and hot while we toured the Biltmore Estate, but when we got back on the BRP south of Asheville - more rain. I'm sure it is a beautiful drive, hope I get to see it someday.
Even with rain, Hwy 441 through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park is fabulous scenery!
