Getting some white spots on my aluminum body and engine parts. I assume this is the equivalent of rust. What needs to be done to take care of this and prevent it from happening?

It's oxidization. It happens when there is moisture (sweat) or large temperature changes with aluminum, and the air will oxidize the moist surface.
It happens a lot if a car is stored outside in the winter. In the spring, when you pop the hood, all of the exposed aluminum will have that white powder on it.
It just simply washes away with Simple green, or a similar product.
You can use a polish/ wax on the aluminum surfaces to prevent it from happening again. http://www.keytometals.com/page.aspx...ite=ktn&NM=187
Along that same line, is there a fairly easy way to polish up the alternator on a C6? Mine (I'm sure most do) looks crappy, being dull looking
Short of taking it off, apart, sand it smooth and polishing it with a machine? Not that I know of. I polish cast aluminum pieces on old outboard motors this way...there is no "fairly easy" way other than writing a check for a polished alternator. FWIW.
