Maybe Corvette ownership should come with a responsibility course

Because you are a bad driver, the rest of us have to take a safety course?
WTF!
Socialist behavior isn't going to help in this instance, either.
Why can't you be happy living your life and allow the rest of us to live ours?
Think before you type. America land of the free.
If you hate it so bad, go to North Korea. See if they allow you to own a Corvette.
Safety post or socialism?

From what I've read on here so far, most of the responses are against any kind of additonal driver training. No one thinks that would cut down on the accidents that occur daily because of lack of skill, distractions, road conditions, or what ever the causes are. It's not the members here on the forum who are causing these accidents(usually), but are being defensive like there are being singled out. I would love to take tougher more involved testing for a drivers license if it means safer roads, especially if it means my family has a better chance of getting home safe. It's usually someone you do not know that causes the accidents that hurt your loved ones. I see too many bad drivers every day and I only have a 31 mile commute in a somewhat rural area. I welcome a change.

with all of these opinions being stated....some legit....some...well you know....lets get this little tid-bit started. Which do you think causes more accidents....reckless driving due primarily to hot-rodding....or idiots that text or use their phones while driving. The American public has been getting bombarded with the facts about texting and driving....people getting into crashes all the time....some deadly.....but yet at any given time you can look over and see multiple abuse of this dangerous act. And its not just kids....I see adults of all ages using their phones for whatever and creating havoc on the roads. One of the first things to tackle is make cell phone use in a moving car a crime....period. And then be sure it gets enforced.

Defensive/Safe driving=Abide by the rules of the road, Don't drink and drive, treat others with the same kind of respect you want to be given and PUT THE DAMN PHONE DOWN AND DRIVE! All things we all already know and have been warned of the dangers there of. If people aren't willing to do this, then no amount of training in the world will help.

One of my favorite personal sayings:
"Stupid People Die"
It's succinct and to the point and sums up the situation fairly well.

Stupid people do stupid things. There are station wagons that outperform Corvettes. Anything Capable of doubling (at minimum) the speed limit should require a test before purchase in that case. Yup, that includes minivans.
Wait, we already have that test, it's required to obtain a license. After that you're on your own.

I'm a lifelong biker so have much sensitivity to the threat that poor cager driving (cager == car driver) poses. Speaking as such, I can say with great authority that powerful cars being driven in an aggressive way are so low on the threat scale that they don't even appear.
I'd take all the 400+ hp Corvettes in the world over a few soccer moms in their nasty SUV's speaking on cell phones or stuffing their pie holes with whatever smorgasbord they happen to have larded up on at the last drive through. Sure the OP pic is moving but it's also astonishingly rare compared to the carnage imposed on the public by cell phones or eating or putting on makeup or whatever bozo activity distracts drivers on a daily basis.
All this talk of training and licencing is attractive targets for the Rule Makers because we are easy to make hate by the public, but the public, the coke swilling, cell talking, DVD watching public is the threat to us and not us to them.

I see people texting every day, mostly women. At traffic lights I have to beep my horn several times every day as the light changes and the car in front just sits there and opens up 10 or more car lengths because they're texting. What attention do they have when they're texting when the car is moving?

I know the old station wagons have come a long way....lOL. But which make/model will actually out perform a Corvette over the entire spectrum of performance ?? I'd like to get one just so I can pull up next to the people that worship their Grand Sports as though every other non-GS Corvette is a piece of junk....LOLOL.

Sounds like you might dealing with a bit of a inferiority complex. I rather doubt that most folks that own a G/S look at any other corvette or as you say (non- G/S) as a piece of junk. If you own a corvette whatever version it might be keep it nice so that it shows pride of ownership and I pretty much guarantee no other corvette owner will look at it as a piece of junk.

LOL....More confusion......absolutely no inferiority complex here. I like the GS. If I wanted a GS I'd get one. I have a base vert cause the GS is just a little too busy looking for me. I prefer the slicker sides of the base. I simply call them as I read them. Theres always someone that uses the term "Upgrade" to describe their GS....or the words "Superior in every way". And yes....there have been things said like "I'm so glad that I got rid of that base piece of junk". Other than that, I agree with everything you've stated. If one has a Corvette....even if it isn't that nice but its all they can afford....and they take care of it to the best of their ability....then they should be proud of all the hard work they put into it.

I recommend Go Karting to improve your skills. $15.00 at a real track and it won't be long before you will see real results. On Track here in Connecticut. Dallas Karting Complex for anyone fortunate enough to live near Dallas.
I'm not talking about amusement park rides. These tracks are not as fast as the karts so you have to be good to go fast and keep the front pointed forward.
Look for mandatory helmets and neck braces.

Its not just Corvettes look at all these kids with lowered ricers, their wheels at odd angles because of amateur lowering how low before they crash when a wheel falls off, I got run down on my Harley by a woman on a cell phone who decided to turn left from the right lane. It ended my riding days but it got me into a Corvette. all the training or trying to weed dangerous people out will not happen you just cant fix stupid
