I just noticed that the cap on my 08 is different than the one in the original post. Could the caps operate differently? As I mentioned, mine was a little tight at first but then came right off without issue. I don't recall having to press on it first or anything.
On my 12 GS you don't have to push down to unscrew it. counter clockwise. When putting it back on you have to push down while turning it clockwise. You can't over tighten it. Mine clicks like the gas cap when tight.
