I find it hilarious how many dealerships and auto shops can't get their scheduling and availability down well enough to knock out a quick job like an oil change without dropping your car off and picking it up later.. it's a 20 minute job in the garage, probably half that with a lift. get your **** together! lol.

I'd rather do my own maintenance.

Hmm.. my GS is getting its first oil change on Thursday morning...at the local chevy dealer. This make me nervous but I wont lose any sleep over it... it may be all ok and I like the Dealer -- first time with this one so we'll see.

On a side note: my older 1980 Mercedes is in need of a oil service - the independent guy I have used for 28 years comes to my house, picks it up, goes to his business and does what is needed and brings it back when he is done. I wish all mechanics were like him .. He treats my car like it were his , repairs only what is needed. Sad part is he only works on Mercedes. He has it now - on an overnighter. :-)

I only trust one guy with changing the oil in my Vette. But I have an appt. tomorrow at the dealership for an oil change in the Cadillac and they've always been real quick, plus they wash the car when they're done. And it needs it right now. Oh, and the oil change is free. That's not too bad of a deal.

I have had excellent service from Lone Star Chevrolet in Houston-have used the same service advisor every time and they have been prompt
very helpful and done the work exactly as promised.

Cable Dahmer in KCMO is really good, and they have always treated me right on warranty work when I bought the extended plan with my 2005. Had to use it to replace the shifter that often wouldn't shift out of park, and the memory seat control. I have drilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads that I let them install.

I was treated badly at Hendrick Superior Chevrolet in Shawnee, and I've never gone back despite being on their mailers for services and cars.

I do all of my oil changes as long as I'm able to. No exceptions. Jiffy Lube turned my fathers new Corolla into a a paperweight on its first oil change many years ago.

SOUTH FLORIDA REFERRALS:

1. Sawgrass Chevrolet -- see Dave (Service Manager)
2. Lou Bachrodt Chevrolet (Coconut Creek Location) -- see Casey

Both are fair, honest, with no non-sense. They treat Vette owners fairly and honest.

I went to Bukalew Chevrolet In Conroe today, horrible service. I typically do all my own service but my car had a strange noise I could not identify....well after waiting for 45 minutes the main mechanic couldn't identify it either , and he was rude and really didn't seem to want my business. So I just left.....I am going to buy the service tech manuals and figure it out myself.

I don't know what it is but I've seen many more horror stories from dealerships on the E coast of FL than on the W coast. I couldn't be happier with the corvette mechanic at Bob Taylor Chev here in Naples.

I bought race ramps so I could do my own oil/filter changes because taking my car to a dealer makes my stomach hurt. I already know what will happen when I get there. I took my GMC truck in to have the wheels balanced (brand new truck with a shake!) and they screwed that up! What kind of a new car dealership can't balance tires properly so you can imagine me taking my Corvette in to let those people loose on it (not going to happen unless my engine or trans. quits).

I have free 2 year on the new C7 I bought. Do you think I plan on bringing it in for that?

I'll do it myself still...I trust myself over someone else.

Another +1

The dealer does my Alignments when I get new tires... Once a year.
Usually less than a half hour.

I think the last two times I hung out in the shop and talked to the guy doing it.

I keep telling you guys, get to know the people at your dealership.

Take them cookies and doughnuts and you are set.
This is Mechanics Class 101.

When I was a mechanic in the Corps, all it took was a driver handing me a Coke and his vehicle was next.
It is the little things in life which you take for granted which really make a difference in someone else's life.

Just a reminder that Christmas is coming. It shouldn't be the only time of year that you are giving.

I have four years of free oil changes on my ATS... I wish there were a Caddy dealership close. I will be doing all of those changes.
If you think changing oil on a Corvette is easy, man is the ATS a breeze.

Not in FL. But I bought my 08 new from Tommy Jr. at Macmulkins Nashua NH. Even though I'm an hour plus from them I only go there for oil changes. They are the best hands down, from buying to service in my area.

I have also had good luck with Palm Chevrolet in Punta Gorda both with warranty work and normal service. The warranty work was electronics including body contrl module the AC head and some wheel sensors. All appointmens honored and on time.

I'm not defending this dealer (I actually just had a fuel pump assembly done here on my Avey) because I have a huge problem with dealers (except Ed Morse Cadillac who is and has always been the best with my Caddys). Why on earth did you wait 1.5 hours (twice as long as they said it would take) to look and see that your car had not moved??? I would have checked every 10 min....just saying.

Maybe I should have picked up on that because at 2:20 I walk out to the lot and my car is sitting there parked in the same spot it had been when I arrived almost an hr and a half earlier. I said, "Can I please have have my keys back, the car hasn't moved in 1.5hrs." Reply "Oh your car is definitely next, look we don't even have your keys anymore because the mechanics took it." I look around, yep there is my fob hanging there with all the other keys. Give me a break.

If anyone out there chooses to avoid getting service at a dealership, I now know why and don't blame you one bit. One of the managers (Scott) was actually very apologetic about it and was not aware. Everyone else couldn't care less.

GM Service, the best. Phil Smith Chevrolet in Lauderhill. LOL. Not sure why I called ahead to set up an appointment in the first place?
Looks like your service advisor wasn't doing his job. He should have been staying on top of your service. He should have been keeping you informed of any problems causing your delay.

the corvette is seriously the easiest car to do an oil change on. I just did my first one and all I needed to do was jack up behind the driver's wheel and I could reach under and do everything with one hand, I didn't even need to crawl under the car. the hardest part was waiting for all the oil to come out.

Because I figured I didn't have to and was going to be treated fairly.

Rick, thanx for the great feedback about Palm Chevrolet. My 2013 427 vert is almost due for service and I was going to give Palm a chance at it.

I have the oil changed for the 13 GS at Riley Chevrolet in Jefferson City, Missouri. Great customer service and excellent techs. I will continue to get the oil changed there until it is out of factory warranty. They will have a record of all service and repairs. No questions about oil change interval, oil and filter used should something rear it's ugly head in the future. The oil in the wife's 69 Camaro is always changed by myself. I use an AC Delco filter and Royal Purple full synthetic racing oil. When the GS warranty ends I will change the oil in it too.

If you find a dealer that has poor service, report it to management and either try them again or find another dealership for your business.

Had my oil changed -- first one - today in Bellevue -- all good with this Chevy Dealer- one thing I like about them over the one a little north of here is they do the oil change in the dedicated service bays by a trained Corvette Tech -- whereas the one north of here does them in a Quick lube/oil change bay. I would doubt the quick lube bay guy has any specialized knowledge as in knowing my 2013 GS M6 has a dry sump and takes a bit more oil. Drove my car in at my appointment time, within 5 min they drove in to the bay and I was back on the road within 50 min.- - just like the service advisor said.

I also requested no complimentary wash or vacuum -- he said no problem we wont touch it.

So not all GM Dealers are bad -- I 'd go back- hopefully for only an oil service
